Last week, the Smashing Pumpkins played two South American tour dates as part of a charitable initiative organized by the makers of Buchanan’s Scotch whisky. In Caracas on Tuesday, and in Bogotá on Friday, the band performed free of charge for volunteers, all of whom donated four hours of service to local charities. Before the shows in each city, the band toured volunteer sites and held a press conference. The Caracas show marked the band’s first-ever performance in Venezuela; check out a review (in Spanish) and setlist here. The Bogotá gig included the band’s second performance of “The Celestials.”

Below, watch the first three songs of the band’s Caracas set: “Black Diamond,” “Zero,” and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” the first of the three featuring a particularly blistering Jeff Schroeder guitar solo.

The Smashing Pumpkins have been tipped for two South American dates for the last week of June. According to a press release from Buchanan’s, makers of Scotch whisky, the Pumpkins will be participating in the brand’s “Share Yourself” charity. The venture invites residents of Caracas and Bogotá to volunteer four hours of their time toward local education initiatives, and in return receive tickets to attend a performance by the band. According to a Facebook update by Buchanan’s, the band is to play Caracas’s Centro Internacional de Exposiciones Caracas on June 26 (the Pumpkins’ first-ever Venezuelan show) and Bogotá’s Royal Center on June 29.

In other tour news, earlier today we learned the Pumpkins are to play their first-ever show in the Philippines on August 7.

Lúcio Ribeiro reports a rumor in Portuguese, but everyone should get the idea:

Depois de acertar shows no México e na Costa Rica, o Smashing Pumpkins leva a American Gothic Tour para Lima, no Peru. Logo depois, a banda vem para Brasil, Chile e Argentina.
