I agree the official website sux! Something has to be done asap and preferably before Oceania is released. By the way the url for the Teargarden downloads is http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/home and it’s also the 2nd item that comes up when you google “Smashing Pumpkins”.

I haven’t commented in a long time here.SP’s website has gone to the crapper sadly, this has distance the fan (i know for me)from the band.I stay in touch with most on twitter, that i meet at the Old SP site.I just wish Billy would get the site back up and pull the fans back together.The fan base at the Old SP.com, was a bunch of the greatest people I’ve ever meet here.But,this just hasn’t been happening the pulling together of fan and band, there is a falling apart really here of SP.com.I don’t want to run all over the net to know what going on with my favorite band ,It’s so impersonal.Half the time, I don’t know what is going on because information is fly all over the place ,but the official site.Isn’t that what you have a band site for?I miss the old SP.com,..Then it was more of a unity of like minds, we all loved the band,and billy.Plus, had the band communicated with us.What I loved about Billy ,you felt you related to him and his Journey threw his life..And,it’s not that I still don’t just LOVE the Mighty SP, but there is a distance, that has come between the fan and Billy..I think Billy should really re-think the site, there’s no since of togetherness with Billy nor the band, that made you feel a special connection with billy.I wish Billy would read this really.I hope he does really rethink it.From one fan, i miss the unity with what I loved so much Billy Corgan’s music. The social networking sites are certainly indispensable, but the first place I often go for info is a band’s official site. Official sites tend to be more concise, aren’t limited or subject to any design constraints of the other mediums, and act as hubs for all things releated to whatever band it is. I definitely use YouTube, Spotify and Facebook to find bands more and more often, but once I discover a band I want to go to their site and see what they’re all about. And as a new or casual fan of a band I don’t seek out blogs about them.
That said, should the site carry on in it’s current state, I would be forced to agree no site would be better.

@Graves: I think that argument only applies if you’re already invested with the band. I’m not going to like a band on Facebook or try and figure out what their twitter account is if I just want to know when their album comes out. Nor would I go to a fan blog. I would do like everyone else does and type the band’s name into Google, expecting their official site to be the first result.

With Facebook, twitter, YouTube etc the bands website is the last place people go for info. Plus you have blogs like this and crestfallen, so who cares about the official web page.

i agree that it is the right move not to give the critics the chance to shit on the album. i also think that not all reviews will be bad. rolling stone will probably give a good review of the album.

i also think that the importance of having full concert dvds is very low.

i do, however, love the idea of having a Best Of live compilation per era. that could be pretty effing awesome actually. two discs of course :) get all those gems on there!

I just wanna say that you guys are great and that I agree that I also find it kind of sad for someone like Billy to tout on about how important social media is when his own website is a total mess. As for the archive project, I don’t understand all the fuss when I’m seeing a full show uploaded to youtube almost every week by some dedicated fans. I can’t imagine everyone has seen all these already. Do we really need a DVD copy of old performances or a complete show on vinyl? Is it me or are we really over thinking this to the point where nothing can get done?
