Why You Should Trust Us Completely
Hipsters United has on at least one occasion been dismissed as a mere “fan blog” that could not possibly be as accurate or reliable as Undercover.com.au (“Australia’s number one music news and entertainment site”). But frankly, when it comes to factual information about the Smashing Pumpkins, we believe that we are more trustworthy than any general-interest music news site that we have come across. Why is that? Most obviously, we really know the subject matter. Secondly, since we (currently!) have no revenue-generating advertisements, we have little incentive to gin up eyeball-drawing controversies via the propagation of bullshit. Furthermore, because we are open about our appreciation for the band, our readers know how important it is to think for themselves — whereas many general-interest music news sites construct an illusion of objectivity specifically to make their readers doubt themselves. (Yeah, we too play status games, but we’re at least trying to be honest about it, okay?)
If You Aren’t Buying That, You’ll Be Glad to Know This
Widely read music-news outlets such as MTV, Rolling Stone, Spin Magazine, Pitchfork, New York Magazine, the Guardian, the New Musical Express, United Stations Radio Networks, Pollstar, FMQB, Guitar World, the Washington Post, the Oregonian, the Daily Swarm, Stereogum, Idolator, Paste Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Time Out Chicago, Q101.com, Magicrpm.com, Exclaim.ca, MusicLink.it, Clash Music, HitFix, Grunge Report, Consequence of Sound, and TwentyFourBit have each, at least once, openly used or cited material from Hipsters United. They deserve credit for having admitted it.
