Billy Corgan says, on “Rockline” radio program (listen to “Clip 3″ here), that he already has come up with a title for the next Smashing Pumpkins album.

It would be interesting if he tested out some new songs from whatever album he is planning out next on the upcoming US tour. Also, I wouldn’t mind hearing As Rome Burns again.
Well, much to my pleasure, it seems that Billy doesn’t plan on going back to the “one song at a time” strategy! :)
I hope they take advantage of the Oceania momentum and release an even better album as soon as possible!
If they actually follow through on the double-album notion, that could eaily fulfill the TbK promise. I would like that.

I would very much enjoy if they incorporated some brand new songs into the mix, but I wonder if they would. Playing Oceania through is already a pretty strong commitment to new material. Although he did say that they are working up some more older songs (hopefully deep cuts, if I had my druthers) to add in for the North American tour.
I actually wonder if the songs played for the Premier VIPs (lulz) will be new material they are testing out, much like they tested out new songs during those public soundchecks in July 2010. Honestly, that might talk me into wanting Premier VIP. Seeing them at that public soundcheck in 2010 was maybe my top SP experience of all time. OF ALL TIME!
Seriously, though, it was really cool. I still mourn “Blessed Mother.”
@susan
I feel like the songs they’ll play for the vee-eye-pees will just be like acoustic Today or something along those lines. I guess we’ll find out when the tour starts! Or if I get any specific details in the email that’s forthcoming from the people hosting the VIP package I will let you know!
I so hope they keep playing XYU during the Canadian leg of the tour… not only for me but for my not so harcore SP fans friends that will come with me. It’s a favorite amongst them all.
Really hope they bring out some fan faves like Snail, Mayonaise, Daphne Descends, Here Is No Why, Porcelina, etc…. mix it up SP!
I think my first choices would be “Marquis in Spades” or “Mouths of Babes”.
Or Jellybelly! :)
@werideatdusk Is “Daphne Descends” really a fan fave?
It’s one of my favs. I’m a fan.
Here Is No Why, Jellybelly, Snail plz! :)
i thought so. i guess “behold the nightmare” is more beloved but they havent played daphne since the adore tour and damn it sounded great!!!
I dont care what they play, I just want some deep cuts. As long as its not the typical Rotten Apples mix of songs (though Perfect would be kinda neat) I don’t care. If they keep the versatility like in the 2007/2011 tours I would incredible happy.
I’d love to hear Daphne Descends. Wow…
Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. IV : The Phoenix Meets the Dwarf
i think we can reasonably expect to hear/see some cult favorite MCIS songs on this tour. i dont think it was a coincidence that songs like window paine, frail and bedazzled, and geek usa were folded into the set when the gish and sd reissues were coming out.
i think here is no why, fuck you, and love are good guesses.
Surprised the lack of Pisces or SD cuts mentioned. I mean it makes sense and those b-sides (from the re-issue) are as deep as you can possible get. I mean Glynnis, Vanilla, Moleasskiss? So many possibilities.
Moleasskiss would be great! It’s on the re-issue…why not play it? Fuck You would be cool, too.
Agreed with zanzabar. And that would be perfect for my friends and I. Here is no why and Jellybelly are the 2 gems that I’d die to finally hear live!
Oh and the songs from the “Zero” single! :) All of them!
@susan
I agree. I think there will be a good chance that they play a new song in the sound check, I’m jut hoping someone records it! I saw them first perform blessed mother in Chicago from front row so that song is automatically great for me, I would love to have it officially recorded. How bout this for the tour.. As Rome Burns into XYU into Fuck You.
^METAL! :)
I wouldn’t expect to hear too much in the way of deep cuts or b-sides unless they plan on doing 3 hour plus shows again. In 2011 they were pretty much touring in support of the reissues after Oceania was delayed.
Playing all of Oceania doesn’t leave too much room for a varied setlist, especially since they’re playing arenas. I’m sure there’ll be at least one or two MCIS/TAFH tracks thrown into the mix but the post Oceania set will still be heavy on the hits.
I’d second the vote for anything from the Zero EP though, particularly Pennies.
I second skullivan’s suggestion of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. IV : The Phoenix Meets the Dwarf.
I also hope that they seriously consider making a double album, an album where the band could REALLY explore some new territory, especially having even more of Nicole and Mike’s backing vocal harmonies. Hey! For that matter, what if Mike took a lead vocal? What if there was a solo Jeff guitar piece, like something out of a Yes album like “Fragile”? What if there was a track where they traded instruments? Who knows? But, a double, from THIS (no puns intende, folks) band, would be wonderful.
I’m all for a double experimental album, but wonder if he’d do it since he frequently says fans and critics attack him for trying new things and releasing them even if they don’t work perfectly.
There are so many entitled, know-it-alls out there ready to blast his band for any number of reasons, and I wonder if he thinks the current positivity is worth the risk. I think he’ll still record the music he feels like making, the question is will we hear it? Will it be produced and polished?
@ Scott
Please, no trading instruments…seriously. Aaarrrrghhhh.
