This week I was joined by Simon from Ozphoria, who attended all but one of the Australia and New Zealand portion of the current tour supporting Oceania.  We talked about the early results of playing the new album straight through, the logistics of traveling and performing with a gargantuan guest star, and even got a hint of some songs that haven’t been performed yet but may show up on setlists in the near future.

Are the crowds mostly older fans or is there a younger generation present?

2. Mick - 5:56 pm // Saturday, August 11, 2012

I’m not sure what the other shows were like but the Sydney show was mostly mid teens to late 20′s I’d say. It was cool to see 15 year old kids and 35 year old guys enjoying the same show.

What is this about hints of songs that haven’t been played that may show up on setlists…?

Soots and Stars might be one of them, and I think Simon had a good idea in which they were testing the setlist with Australia.

I am still doubtful that Billy will play Oceania (in full rotation) in the U.S. Most likely like the festival show in which they didn’t play the entire album. But as a hardcore fan I have grown to dislike heavy hit shows. I would wish they would do what they did back in 07 with Zeitgeist were they played a good 6-8 songs and having their entire catalog revolve around those songs. Here’s hoping that they switch it up a lot more than they did the past few years. Still surprised Billy hasn’t done so considering is something that band has done for so long.

Give me Oceania in full and the 2011 tour set list and I’d be in heaven

They better play the entire Oceania setlist in the US. I’ve been waiting. And I hope XYU and Luna are still around.

@Just_Erick. Not sure what you are worried about. Even at the hit heavy setlist in Taiwan they still played most songs from a single album from Oceania (7 songs). Billy’s philosophy has always been to play the new stuff.. for over 20 years… so why would he change that now?

this is the first sp tour i have no interest in and its because they are playing all of oceania. at first when the album was released/streamed on itunes i was excited and listened to it all of the time. now just a couple of months later i have no desire to listen to oceania…i can’t imagine paying to watch them play a whole album i am already bored with.

True, the Zeitgeist setlists were top notch. They can play Oceania in full add some hits and add three or four non hit songs.
