I’ll reserve judgement until I actually hear it in full fidelity, and I know the originals still exist so whatever, but I have a feeling I’m gonna keep going back to the original mixes of Translucent and Glynis. The fact that the band mixed them while on drugs is sorta why I like the band in the first place, you know?
Cinder Open is pretty interesting, Its the unnamed instrumental on the Friends and Enemies of Modern Music Tape. Appears to be a minute and a half longer.
I was thinking the exact same thing about the Translucent and Glynis mixes. Probably to early to judge. It will interesting to compare the 2012 mixes to the originals. I absolutely love those 2 songs. Always blew my mind how they never made it onto Pisces to began with. Considering Whir spawned from Glynis, I always thought it would of been a great retrospect before listening to Whir.
Unfortunately 41.00 dollars is too expensive to own the physical box. I might buy it digitally or just wait to see if the price drops further. I’m still on the fence. I wonder why Pisces is so much more expensive than the first 2 reissues? Perhaps its because it contains new tracks not alternates, or legal issues with the cover tracks, or maybe the delayed production, the cassette? Who knows.
Its a chunk of change for the box, but considering Pearl Jam and U2 fans have been hosed with $100-$400 boxes with comparable stuff, I’m thinking someone has our backs with the pricing. Plus if you had told me a decade ago I could get a replica of the original demo tape for less than $75 as a bonus in a future Pisces box, I would have thought the future was a magical wonderful land I couldn’t wait to get to.
I feel like it is a great deal. I am more excited for this than I was Siamese Dream. It sounds incredible from the short track clips. This is a quality product, not sure I understand the complaint on price.
I tend to agree with Ryan, I like a good bargain as much as the next person, and try to live within my means and limit spending, but looking at the pricey box sets a lot of other bands have put out makes these seem like a great value. I appreciate that Billy really did put a lot of care into the packaging and notes with these.
I expect that Mellon Collie and Aeroplane may be even higher in price as they will include additional CDs….
Yeah, that is true, The Nirvana Nevermind Super Deluxe Edition price was a joke and that was only 4 discs. Chances are I will end up buying them all, except maybe Aeroplane.
@KingChris I don’t think quality is the issue here. Pisces costs fully twice as much as either SD or Gish with the only difference in packaging being the demo tape.
When I saw the price I honestly thought the vinyl must be included also.
I am sure the price difference is a result of what it will take to make this profitable. I would probably guess that they didn’t sell the amount of Gish and Siamese that they thought they would. These are built fr more than the average fan. These are geared towards the harder core of a fan. I would think that they anticipate that Pisces will sell even less, which means in order to make this profitable, they must raise the price. I would continue to encourage Billy to spend the time and effort to make this a quality effort. Most people new to the band are not going to be geared up for these like we are. They are probably content to pick up a used copy. The music scene has changed dramatically and there are so many choices for music lovers.
Super excited to own this but in the bonus disc there are only a couple of tracks I don’t already have or haven’t heard before. I was thinking there would be more in the vaults but then again I think we tend to get greedy with Billy’s prolific song writing. There hasn’t been many other bands with a catalogue as vast with unreleased material as the Pumpkins and I still want more…???…always and Pisces Iscariot probably got played a few thousand times in my car alone.
Another thing to be remembered about this… No matter how many times you’ve heard a lot of the newly remixed and remastered songs on here, this is the first time we’ve all had the opportunity to give money in exchange for it. Instead of your ISP, the post office, or the blank CD section at Target. WE’RE GETTING THE FUCKING UNCUT PULSE PERFORMANCE ON DVD AND A REPLICA OF THE DEMO TAPE. PLEASE SHUT UP. I mean… Civility!
Also, when is the last time anyone here has found a CD they wanted that came out in the last 3 years at a used CD store? They’re not there because nobody buys CDs anymore, or that theoretical store closed years ago.
