A press release this morning contains a photo and complete lists of contents for EMI’s expected July 17 reissue of Pisces Iscariot, the Smashing Pumpkins’ 1994 b-sides compilation album.
PISCES ISCARIOT is being released in multiple configurations: Deluxe Physical Album—which comes with a live DVD and the first-ever PUMPKINS demo reproduced on cassette—Deluxe Digital, Standard Physical, Digital and 180G Vinyl.
As previously reported, the live DVD contains 24 tracks, among them the Pumpkins’ complete November 19, 1988 session recorded for broadcast on public access television, a session known to comprise nine songs. It turns out that 17 of the 24 DVD tracks are devoted to this 1988 session: eight incomplete song takes are included along with the nine complete takes. The remaining seven DVD tracks come from live performances between 1989 and 1994 and may (dis)please fans of Steve Miller and Thin Lizzy:
Blue (1991/10/22, Milwaukee) | Offer Up (1992/6/9, Milwaukee) | The Joker (1992/6/10, Milwaukee) | Slunk (1992/6/10, Milwaukee) | Dancing in the Moonlight (1993/7/4, London) | Snap (1989/8/11, Chicago) | Hello Kitty Kat (1994/8/21, Dallas)
The press release verifies that the so-called “first-ever Pumpkins demo” chosen for reproduction and inclusion is indeed The Smashing Pumpkins cassette, self-released by the band in 1989.
The deluxe physical and digital editions also come with a bonus compact disc(‘s worth) of Pumpkins recordings, most of which are studio outtakes that missed Pisces Iscariot the first time around:
By June (Ignoffo Sessions/2012 mix) | My Dahlia (Ignoffo Sessions/2012 Mix) | Jesus Loves His Babies (Gish Sessions rough mix) | Cinnamon Girl (Ignoffo Sessions/2012 Mix) | Glynis (2012 Mix) | Crawl (Gish Sessions outtake) | Cinder Open (Eddy St. demo/2012 mix) | Blissed (Sadlands demo/2012 Mix) | Slunk (Live) | Jackie Blue | Venus in Furs (Live) | Translucent (Sadlands demo/2012 mix) | French Movie Theme (Siamese Sessions outtake) | Purr Snickety (Gish b-sides session outtake) | There It Goes (demo/2012 mix) | Vanilla (Ignoffo Sessions) | Why Am I So Tired (Live in studio demo)
Most notable for diehards might be “Crawl,” a song that has not been bootlegged in any form, and the demo “Cinder,” of which only live recordings have previously circulated.

Noice.
How much will this cost? and I wonder how much the aeroplane flies high will be. a lot of stuff in that one.
I can’t believe it, just two more weeks… I’m buying this on day one.
I must confess I waited 4, 5 months to buy the first two reissues, and ended shooting myself in the foot, since I payed more for Gish than for Siamese Dream, now don’t get me wrong I love the reissues but the Gish bonus disc is rather crappy.
This one’s pure gold (to me) Jesus loves his Babies, There it goes, French Movie theme (I’m not into Live albums, so having Pulseczar on TttS and now this song in here is absolutely fantastic), Bye June, remastered Spaced… I’m so hyped right now.
Eddy St.? Hmmm, is that perhaps the parking garage Billy lived in for a time? Chicago geography nerd: Eddy Street is a block south of Addison. But it doesn’t cross the street where Billy’s purple house is.
awwww yeah!
too bad the bonus disc isnt out on vinyl, ah well.
only 2 weeks till this bad boy, very cool.
is the version of Purr Snickety different from the known version? That’s one of my favorite songs. I’ll be happy with just a cleaned up version, truthfully. Fucking. Love. That. Song.
Homina, homina, look at the size of that thing! Jesus Loves His Babies officially released on something official now too, yay!
Cinder; Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.
I would be a lot more interested in a bonus disc with more genuinely unreleased material. Only one completely unheard song out of 17 is kind of insulting for 50+ bucks, especially after all the bragging about the depth and vastness of the SP archive.
…Or am I possibly paying for the sin of listening to bootleg material?
nah, but i do think youre being a bit harsh
i think (hope) that the truly unheard unreleased stuff will trickle out via SPRC over time. who knows, SPRC could even release entire reel time sessions or something like that; i dont think SPRC has shown its true colors yet…
plus itll be pretty nice to have cleaned up versions of some of those ignoffo / reel time / demo tap songs (translucent!)
as for the depth and vastness of the sp archive i think with MCIS and onward we will be saturated with good unreleased stuff
and what are we thinking about PI reissue artwork…
shiny new re-imagined artwork like Gish and SD?
yellow cover vinyl?
is the artwork supposed to be smeared looking or is that just a bad pic?
personally, i hope the cover is shiny like the first two reissues … ya know, so they look good all lined up on the shelf together!
DREVPILE is happy, I am happy~!
Well it looks like they again put some sort of photoshop filter (upped the saturation, with a blur of some sort?) over it but maybe not as bad as Siamese Dream. Its hard to tell with such a small photo. Maybe Billy came to his senses and fired his former “art director” or he participated in the design process more? At least they didn’t mess with the fish it looks like! :)
I really like that they included a little cassette too! I’ve never seen a modern band do that before. Nice throwback. CDs existed back then but many people still listened to cassettes in 94′ (I actually remember buying the “Batman Forever” soundtrack for Eye on cassette in 96′ when I was like 11 lol). I’m going to have a hard time finding an actual cassette player to listen to it on but I’m sure it will be worth it. It will be interesting to compare and contrast the sound quality between CDs and Cassettes (and maybe Vinyl too). I’ve actually already forgotten what they sound like.
Hey, maybe it will include a note explaining what he meant by ending it in 2007 in the original liner notes? In the liner notes he also mentions there being some “25 songs left” still available for release. I wonder if those all got released or not with all the reissues or not?

^ oh snap, where is my mind? I meant the Batman and Robin sountrack for “The End is the Beginning is the End” duh….which was actually released in 97′. I listened the fuck out of that song too. First Pumpkins song/record I ever bought. Eye was on the Lost Highway soundtrack.
@justsaymaybe Those 25 songs he was talking about were songs that weren’t on Gish or SD but which had been officially released already (e.g. Slunk, Bye June, Bullet Train etc.) , not 25 completely unknown songs.
i really liked the new Gish and SD artwork
mainly because it was different from the original so it sets them apart
i hope they stay the same – i want a bunch of shiny pumpkins records all lined up on my shelf!
@skullivan Ah ok thanks.
Agreed. It seems like there have been repeated hints for years of more unheard SD/Gish era material than is being released right now (or, perhaps, actually exists). I also would like to hope that SPRC will be a conduit for hearing more of it in the future. I have enjoyed everything that’s come out thru SPFC but would personally rather hear even inferior material that is completely new rather than versions of songs I’ve known for years.
Totally being harsh, you are right. But all the same, I’m having a hard time getting repeatedly psyched about paying for “bonus material” that everyone’s had for more than a decade.
This might be a stupid question but does anyone know if all the bonus work will be remastered like GIsh and SD? I mean holy hell, some of those songs are incredible rare treats and to hear them in glorious modern set up would be amazing.
Where the heck is the pre-order on the website!!!!!!! :)
This is amazing. The reissues are getting better and better with each one. can’t believe actually getting the demo tape remastered. and vanilla has always been one of my favorite unreleased songs of this era.
The press release lists a song called Death of a Mind. I don’t know that one and it is not listed on SPFC songlist [ed. is so].
Death of a Mind is the early version of Sun – as played mostly by The Marked.
This is a great set…can’t wait. What a great year for fellow Pumpkinheads!
Still hoping MCIS/TAFH/Adore are on track for the holidays. It’s such a great time to be a fan.
$43.99 at Amazon
@25
Wasn’t Adore pushed back to next year?
I really wish The Vigil was on the bonus disc; by the way, does this bonus disc has a name?
@colquittbrett
Gurou-Kun is right. At last word, Mellon Collie and Aeroplane for the holidays, and Adore possibly in April 2013 (Record Store Day).

Re, Gorou-Kun’s question about whether the bonus disc has a name, I think it’s a strong possibility. If I remember correctly, we didn’t know the names of the Gish and Siamese Dream bonus discs until they started shipping out. Someone correct me if I’m wrong though!
Speaking of ordering through SP’s website, has anyone received their free Flexi disc from the Pumpkins/Topsin as part of their effort to apologize for not sending out the Gish/Siamese Dream re-issues on time if you ordered through their website? I have not received mine yet…
@DK
Lots of people have.

I’d be contacting TopSpin for help if I were you, and/or tweeting @SmashingPumpkin or @sprecordclub. At this point, I’d be very concerned because most people got these at the beginning of May.
It’ll be nice to have a “Jackie Blue” remaster. The original mastering was sort of…unique, wasn’t it?
I was just thinking the same thing about “Glynis”.
Don’t get me wrong; the DVD looks awesome and most of the bonus CD should be great…but I’m not sure that “French Movie Theme” and “Why Am I So Tired” are really the best uses of space. Ditto for “Slunk” if it’s the Earphoria version. I’m kind of bummed that much of the other non-LP stuff from the era is being overlooked (even the two bonus tracks that came with the Pisces vinyl). It’d really be nice to have that stuff show up on CD.
I really want to know what else was demoed at Eddy St. now. Very excited that there is a studioish version of Cinder, but now I want MORE! :)
Hopefully whomever mislabeled “By June” as “Bye June” in the press release isn’t the same person doing the label copy edit.
Obviously I meant the other way around, and obviously it’s a good thing I’m not doing the label copy.
@apm
I’m pretty sure Eddy St does mean the parking garage where they jammed out Siamese Dream / where he stayed for a while. I’m also pretty certain it’s the car park behind the sleazy Taco Bell by Wrigley Field.
At first I was also a bit miffed at “only 1 truly unheard song??!1″, but then again there was -nothing- previously unheard in any form on the Gish re-issue, and only 2 (USA / USSR) on SD, yet many of the alternate versions of the other songs that appeared on each bonus disc were SO different from what we’d already heard that that didn’t matter all that much. I do think “26-track bonus DVD!” is a bit misleading, though, considering that 10 of those (“over half!” in SocialIntarWebMediaz2.0(tm) speak) are non-song tracks or multiple abandoned attempts. If any of them were as awesome & hilarious as the abandoned ‘Sun’ jam from Reel Time it’d be worth it, but considering the program, I doubt it.
As a longtime fan who’s had every bootleg and unreleased track for years and years, I’m still beyond thrilled to get all these on an official release with a fresh mix! Preordered and already salivating at the prospect of popping that DVD in for the first time.
Anyone else think the DVD is really just an excuse to make fun of James and D’Arcy for sucking?
Am I missing something or is this set really twice as much as the previous reissues? Does it come with the vinyl also?
i think the cassette is really expensive to make. plus, maybe the first two reissues were priced a bit lower to entice more casual fans?
received my box set and vinyl yesterday : )
How come the remastered version of Plume is different to the original album version? Anyone know?
Plume sounds like the same performance, but a slightly different mix, or different mastering, less totally squeezed! It sounds sweet!
