Already got it. Why they wait so long to release it here? Poor marketing strategy.
I don’t care that he’s the worst human being on earth; what I’ve heard of this actually sounds really good
@Bob English The label is going to ride whatever coattails of SP new album/Pisces reissue press they can. Gotta move those units.
This piece of shit dude’s new song is pretty good!
A few days ago I ordered a new copy from a third-party seller on Amazon for six bucks. I was pretty sure they’d screw me over and not fill the order, but apparently it shipped today. So…yeah. Hopefully they send me the CD and not, like, a bag of dog shit. Or as Billy would say, “What’s the difference?”
Don’t worry.I buy used and new idems of third-party sellers all the time and never got screwed. I live in Germany, though and bought at least 50 items this year. Hope your lucky.
The cd is really good. It is much better than the first album by James. If you enjoy James, this is a must buy.
listen to the sample on RS, and I don’t care for it. It sounds to me like the Cure except he sings in monotone….monotone.
I’m really looking forward to this album. Iha’s music just hits a certain sweet spot for me and the bits I’ve heard sound good to my ears.
@MAKO As luck would have it, it arrived today. I’m still convinced it was a major pricing error but I’m glad to have it. I heard the album once before via a download and a few other songs in concert, but I can’t officially consider it part of my collection until I’ve got the CD.
The song sounds really good to me, and I mean really good. I am not the kind of fan who is quick to jump the negative or positive bandwagon (my post history can reflect that) but I think James new solo album, in essence, sounds more Smashing Pumpkins than either Oceania, Teargarden, or Zeitgeist. I really mean that too…
But on that same token, it sounds very unique. I think the aspect I associate with the Smashing Pumpkins sound is, the song some how sounds moody and emotional but it has a very nice warmth to it. That balance was something I feel resonated throughout much of SP’s career.
Though I wonder if this album becomes a critical darling, will Billy talk crap about James for “stealing” his sound? Or maybe use a new circus analogy.
It’s not realistic, but can you imagine if Look to the Sky outsold Oceania? Could you imagine what that would do to Billy?
@Just_Erick if you think that song sounds more like the Pumpkins than Oceania your idea of the Smashing Pumpkins and mine are two completely different ideas.
@Philip, well are you saying it sounds nothing like SP? And I specifically said “James new solo album,” have you listened to it? It sounds dark, warm, very dreamy with dreary undertone. But that single does not properly reflect the album, not to say it is very diverse but not all the songs are that moody for lack of a better word.
To me SP were never about hard hitting guitars and screaming licks, to me SP were a very fine balance of melodic riffs and warm spacey atmosphere with loads of cathartic emotion that at Billy’s best, reflects that in his voice and lyrics. That in it self is just impossible for any band to mimic, it’s “the” SP sound…For me at least…
The only thing to me that sounds truly like the Pumpkins is the small stone phaser. I don’t think it’s terrible I just don’t think it sounds more like the pumpkins than Oceania. Oceania has on it the guitars with Quasar and Panopticon but it also has what I called the cruiser, Get in your car take a nice summer drive put on Chimera,Glissandra, or Inkless. I think dark and dreary was certainly a phase the Pumpkins had but I don’t equate it to it being the Pumpkins in regards to their “sound”. I mean correct me if I am wrong but I bet on Gish you’re more of “Rhinoceros”, “Snail”, “Window Paine”? Where as I am more of “Siva”, “Bury Me”, “I am One” type of guy all though I do enjoy those songs as well. The Elements of what makes the Pumpkins great to each other are different, and that’s actually a great thing. That was the reflection of my previous statement.
Well, I do not like putting my taste into a box, but I am more of a Glynnis, Slunk, Honeyspider, French Movie theme kind of guy, French movie theme being the song I would say has just all my favorite SP qualities. But to each his own, though I don’t think the dreariness was a phase. It is easily exhibited throughout every SP album even Oceania (the theme of loneliness)
Much better than the first album!!!!
By the way Appetite seems to be pretty blatantly about Billy Corgan. Check out the lyrics if you don’t believe me…
I get what you’re saying but I feel dreary was more of a theme at times then “sound”. Today is a perfect example the theme is about suicide but if people only listen to the Chorus they often mistake it for a “happy” song. But you’re right two each their own, and that’s what makes the Pumpkins great.
French Movie Theme? really?
How about Spaced?
mmmm…spaced….
I love both or even obscure or whir, there’s just too many! :D
And yea French Movie theme is so beautiful.
Speaking of Iha, I bought a second-hand copy of his Be Strong Now single cd last week. Perfect condition.
