The Smashing Pumpkins are playing host to an Oceania listening party on a boat off Chicago this evening. As announced last week, the Odyssey Chicago will be launched upon the waters of Lake Michigan, transporting band members, fifteen winners of an essay contest, an unknown number of radio contest winners, and members of the Resistance Pro wrestling family.

Passengers on this “Oceania Cruise” not only will check out the new Pumpkins album (now streaming in full on iTunes, if by some chance you managed to miss that) but also will likely be treated to a brief live set by singer Billy Corgan; this morning, Corgan asked his Twitter followers to suggest songs for him to perform.

HU has created a list of Twitter users who will be aboard; if you’re going, send a tweet our way and we’ll add you to the list!

UPDATE (6/13): Corgan did indeed perform several songs, joined by Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder for a rendition of the pre-Gish song “Bleed.” Dan Hyman has written a report for Rolling Stone. HU reader BitterT was there and has uploaded a few videos of the show to his YouTube account; I’d expect more videos are coming as the day wears on. The apparent setlist was:

Jesus Is the Sun
Luna
The Rite of Spring (first live performance; song was written and demoed around 2008-2009)
Bleed (video)
Tonite Reprise/Tonight, Tonight (video)

hours…whatever.

5. Spumkins33 - 8:56 pm // Tuesday, June 12, 2012

There is no useful information from people live tweeting this. Some fruit cake promoting his band, and some person whining about third world countries. WHAT ARE THE BAND PLAYING?! I really want to kick the bulk of Smashing Pumpkins fans in their dicks.

exactly

7. jcoriha - 10:33 pm // Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Apparently they just played Jesus is the Sun & Luna…wow

8. Johnny - 10:35 pm // Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Boot plox?

9. d - 10:45 pm // Tuesday, June 12, 2012

from Crestfallen (this is fake right?)
1) Jesus Is the Sun (acoustic)
2) Luna (electric)
3) The Ride of Spring [Never played before. Written at the same time as Owata]
4) Bleed (with Jeff)

10. gsmamz - 11:24 pm // Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Is “Ride of Spring” monte-speak for “Rite”?

11. 34 - 11:33 pm // Tuesday, June 12, 2012

@d: Not likely to be fake. The first pic of the band up on the boat clearly shows Monte up there with the band, before the other fans (contest winners) boarded.

Not fake. What a weird setlist so far. But I am for sure jelly…

13. snowtrooper - 12:18 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

add tonight to the end of that list. and yes, monte was up on the boat before anyone else got on…kinda made me throw up a little bit ….

and anyone tweeting during the “show” is an asshat.

Fuck, imagine being stuck on a boat with that dude.

15. Halo - 12:27 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Weird set list. Seems like a wasted opportunity. But I am curious to hear the new/old song.

16. JCelsius - 12:59 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

@Halo, I think it’s a neat setlist. I always like it when he plays songs he hasn’t in forever. Personally, I get really tired of hearing Today and BWBW and all those.

17. Chic Sheik - 1:10 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

I’ve seen Tonight Tonight performed a bunch of times before, but it was pretty epic with Billy performing a reprise/regular combo flanked by the Chicago skyline. It’s predictable, but it doesn’t matter – it’s what everyone wanted to see.

18. Halo - 1:21 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

@JCelsius

So do I. I just didn’t like the songs he picked.

19. BitterT - 3:58 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

here ya go, some video of tonight tonight i shot myself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni0YtnlDhFo

20. gsmamz - 4:50 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Thanks, nice video.

Lol at playing a simple acoustic set of just 4 songs, but still having a stage hand guy to take/hand you a different guitar between songs. That’s when you’re hot shit.

22. BitterT - 11:38 am // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

I will have the rest of my videos up tonight. But I hear monte will put together something next week

23. axelease - 12:00 pm // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

@BitterT — thanks for taping!

24. gsmamz - 2:52 pm // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Bleed was really nice. Very cool to dig up gems like that, hope Billy continues to do so.

25. BitterT - 4:32 pm // Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Just a heads up that the rest of the remaining videos are up! enjoy!
