Smashing Pumpkins to play Korean festival date in August 12:58 pm // Thursday, May 31, 2012

The website for the Super!Sonic music festival, taking place in Seoul’s Olympic Park on August 14-15, indicates that the Smashing Pumpkins will serve as its headlining act. Super!Sonic is a brand new festival organized by the same company who runs Japan’s two-city Summer Sonic fest, which the Pumpkins played in 2010 (read HU’s review of the 2010 Tokyo leg here). There does appear to be ticket information on the website, but it’s contained in an non-Google-translatable image, so Korean readers, fill us in. The band is already scheduled to begin the Oceania tour in Australia and New Zealand from July 26-August 4, so the possibility of a larger tour of Asia looms. Also, check out the new promotional photo of the band!
Also playing the fest are Pumpkins pals New Order, with whom Billy Corgan has toured and recorded with in the past.

Haha I think the new picture is totally cool. As long as I never have to see the one of them in the corn field ever again…
Anyways, great promotion. Hope the shows sell!

The person who made this image is in need of some photoshop skills.
That promo pic doesn’t do Nicole justice at all.
Jeff is focused on the front only because he’s Korean-American.
Kim Il Sung cult of personality says Wikipedia on North Korea.
Lol
Personality cultThe North Korean government exercises control over many aspects of the nation’s culture, and this control is used to perpetuate a cult of personality surrounding Kim Il-sung, and, to a lesser extent, Kim Jong-il. While visiting North Korea in 1979, journalist Bradley Martin noted that nearly all music, art, and sculpture that he observed glorified “Great Leader” Kim Il-sung, whose personality cult was then being extended to his son, “Dear Leader” Kim Jong-il.[111] There is even widespread belief that Kim Il-sung “created the world”, and Kim Jong-il could “control the weather”.
I was kinda of hoping it’d be a full band photo from the Sears Tower sky boxes. :)
Huh. New Order & Tears for Fears are also playing Summer Sonic here this year, but I wasn’t really interested enough to go. But Korea’s close enough (& cheap enough) that I might just have to head out there- esp. if it ends up being the closest show they play this year- haven’t missed a touring year since 1995! XD
Awesome lineup! but that is still a shit promo shot. sp use to have such tasteful /artfully done promo shots. remember machina era shots? even zwan had some nice ones. it seriously cant be that hard / expensive to get a good photographer
I want to go to there.
Maybe they will hit Toronto this time around and I can finally see them. Something has always interfered with me getting to see the Pumpkins. Yet Billy is such a big influence in my writing.
I love Tears for fears – head over heels is my fav and that’s not a bad cover.
