The Smashing Pumpkins have confirmed the first leg of their Oceania tour, to take place in, well, Oceania. The band, already confirmed as headliners for the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay on July 29, will also hit Challenge Stadium outside Perth on July 26th, Sydney’s Entertainment Centre on July 31, Melbourne’s Hisense Areana on August 2, and Auckland’s Vector Arena on August 4. For the Sydney and Melbourne dates, the band will be supported by Wolfmother. Tickets go on sale May 9 via Ticketmaster.au and Ticketmaster.nz, but a fan presale (password: TEARDROPS) will commence May 7.

In the press release for the tour, Billy Corgan is quoted, saying:  “Australia is the perfect place to usher in a new era of The Smashing Pumpkins, where we look to combine an epic rock show with the latest in visual mapping technology to create a one-of-a-kind experience for our fans.”

That, and Corgan is currently doing stuff with a lady who lives in Australia so that’s why it’s starting there.

Yes agree. No Brissy show!!! WTF! I thought for sure it would be on particulary with selling out the tivoli so fast last time

Also you’d think they would seeing as though his special lady of interest hails from brisbane (I think) and also because of that brisbane based record company distributing Oceania around oz. Oh well that 2010 show at the tivoli is still one of the best shows I have been to. Ever!

i understand the entire “this is where my girlfriend Jessica is from…this is my life …this is my love….Oceania is my world”….i just feel that way of thinking/creating is so limiting….it excludes the rest of the world…….I want the next album to be made/based/created upon the entire universe :)…is that too much to ask? xoxoxoxoxoxox

Tivoli 2010 was a great show. Probably the best I’ve seen of theirs. I’ll be happy if they play as good as the wiltern show with Oceania in all it’s glory
