Cool move by SP. But what is a flexidisc? and what is on this thing?
Flexidisc: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexi_disc
And what’s on it is a surprise, evidently.
This isn’t exactly free, the cheapest shipping option is $6. Which any ebayer can tell you is going directy into topspin’s pockets.
?? I didn’t get a shipping charge and I ordered it yesterday at 5:00est.
yeah i think they sorted out the shipping thing so it wont cost anyone any money.
also, i think this is a very cool move.
before anyone complains they should understand that thousands of people preordered this thing and that a flexidisc is somewhat of a novelty but since it is relatively cheap to manufacture and distribute it is probably the best way for SP to hook fans up with a free AND tangible product. i think its great. the buck owens flexi discs were some of the coolest RSD releases this year. im very excited to find out what little gem is buried within..
Money says it’s a remixed version of Daughter. Ya know, coming full circle and all that…
Ah yes, this *would* be the second SP flexidisc, as any troo fan would know
http://www.spfreaks.com/default.aspx?page=COLLDETAILS&item=522
Oh man, I want this so bad! HU get me one please!
@ryan and Kiernana
The first people who ordered it yesterday got charged $6 worth of shipping. Then, Topspin had to alter their site to make the shipping free. So the people who ordered later in the day didn’t have to pay shipping.
My understanding from reading on the intarwebs is that anyone who paid the $6 shipping will have that money refunded to them.
@werideatdusk
Yeah, second. But I think it makes more sense to release something re-issue related that isn’t a song already on the release.
It also makes sense to send me a copy for having to listen to everyone boo-hooing about all this Topspin crap anyway.
That last part was sarcasm…. sort of.
Always nice to see some fans being alienated, yet again…..
lulz…Who’s being alienated?
anyone who didnt buy Gish/Siamese Dream online thru sp.com pre-order
That’s akin to saying that anyone who got KFC from a KFC that wasn’t run by retards and therefore DIDN’T get a fried rat in their KFC bucket, and thusly wasn’t compensated in some form, was an alienated KFC customer.
Rectifying a situation with truly alienated customers does not alienate anyone else, least of all the customers who got good service (and elsewhere, at that) to begin with. What’s with the sense of entitlement?
tim, pls.
I’ll sell you mine for $20.
Fingers crossed for Lightning Strikes / Owata.
I’m probably the only one who wouldn’t chuck it out the window!
Hahaha while that would be awesome, I wouldn’t count on it. I say its an older track, probably Siamese/Gish era. Probably not Daughter in my opinion, although Billy’s decision to “recreate” the Demo Tape kind of throws it up in the air.
As Rome Burns and Lonely is the Name EP
it is a cover of Country Girl originally done by James Iha
Come on “fat man blues” or “jackboot”( which I can’t believe wasn’t on the Siamese reissue)!!!
so i’m gonna have to buy a phonograph to listen to this thing… WTF…
@stratoholic. Phonograph? LOL. They haven’t made those in almost a century. You can get a decent record player for $100. I personally prefer vinyl. I do not buy CDs anymore. I go either digital or vinyl and that’s it. I’ll gladly take your flexi off your hands if you would like. I would look nice next to all my other SP records. :)
itll be ripped and upped within 48 hours dont worry
And on ebay within 11 minutes of the first delivery, opening bid $100.
Aww, I want one.
<:(
@Kiernana actually i don’t want a flexidisc
I’m just saying if you get a fried rat in your KFC bucket, you are compensated with some money or free chicken (rat probably tastes better). Not a limited edition collector item, no matter how shitty it is. So anyone that thinks ooh i’d like one of them has to pop in their time machine wot they has just invented, go back and order gish from sp.com then wait for the flexidiscs to roll in
personally ill just pre-order Oceania n wait for that
@Tim, should I talk to you about taking yours off your hands if you don’t want it? ;)
Agreed the rat would probably taste better, or at least the difference would be negligible.
Disagree with the rest. But it’s all good.
I got confirmation today that I will not be receiving a flexidisc due to the fact that I cancelled my order and received a refund. That really pisses me off after waiting a week after the release date then getting random emails about when it may ship….I think 10 days after the release date I cancelled my order and even that was a pain in the ass to do. Im really considering canceling my Oceania preorder just because of this.
What Oceania pre-order is there, with the exception of Amazon? Link pls.
despite all my rage i am still just a fried rat in a bucket – a-haaaaaaaaaaaaa
Good point Amazon is hardly a pre-order it has no details. And its only US – UK has no pre-order at all
HA! I thought about making a ‘rat-in-a-cage’ reference in my ridiculous KFC analogy…
I wouldn’t ever NOT pre-order something from someone else just because Topspin screwed this up as bad as they did once. I might not order from Topspin again, but to anyone thinking along the same lines as Jon Morgan, I don’t think boycotting pre-orders across the board is the way to go.
It’s not that I wanna not pre order anything else, Topspin just really handled this terribly and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I may cancel my pre-order now based on the album cover now. Not really but the cover is kinda awful…..
oh and on top of the not receiving the flexidisc from Topspin also received an email wanting to know how there customer service was……
I totally get your frustration…
From the email:
“Late last fall you pre-ordered a physical product of either Gish or Siamese Dream from us that did not arrive in a timely manner. We apologize again and want you to know we have changed distributors and there should never be a delay such as this again.”
So there’s that.
Also, give the cover some time to sink in. Maybe when you are holding the album, and see the rest of the artwork, you may change your opinion. At least the colors are pretty. I admit I really am hoping for a SP <3 somewhere in the booklet…
Kieranan thanks for your positive outlook. i really am excited about all this no matter how much i complain…
I know you are, dude. :-) Me too…And I presume (hope) everyone else here is. It’s easy to get excited (in both positive and negative ways) when we admire the music and band so much–and have such high expectations. I know I can nitpick and complain too, but at the end of the day, when the dust settles, I think we all come back around.
told ya it wouldnt be Daughter…
[...] a special gift to those fans who had preordered before November 29. A little over a week ago, an email was sent out with instructions on how to request the free flexidisc. Shipments of the disc began this week, and [...]
