Just saw finished 'Oceania' album art. The end draws near to the end of waiting…— Billy Corgan (@Billy) March 26, 2012
great….billy saw something that we all would like to see/hear.
I can be a pessimist here, but this still has me excited. Again, like other folks here, I find it weird that he’s not really talked about the album much with all the random press of late.
Yeah, I still don’t know much more about the album than I did before SXSW, and I thought that was going to be revealing (pppfffffff). I’m stoked more and more though with every day that passes.
Meh, just another announcement.
Could it be he’s gonna do the big reveal of the new album on the Alex Jones show? That’d be HILARIOUS. Jones made Charlie Sheen a meme, so…
The interview took place before Billy saw the completed artwork.
“the end draws near to the end…” wow
Great…An announcement to an announcement. Oh Billy.
Oh c’mon, it isn’t an announcement, is a tweet. Is he allowed to say he has seen the final Oceania cover art from his personal Twitter account? Chill out people.
yes i know billy making another annoucment blah blah blah. if you are frustrated at billy or fed up whatever, forget about the pumpkins and go listen to gaga or kate perry she will put out your record a month that you want and surely won’t try anyting new or different in terms of art or marketing. then you guys will get your nice prompt release with catchy music you can hear on the radio. go stand in line with the other teeny boopers and the rest of us sp fans will wait patiently for oceania to drop
billy: announce away, just keep writing songs ……
I’m noticing a trend on this site. There’s a pattern where, anytime someone expresses some sort of disagreement or annoyance with a facet of SP, someone retorts with “Go listen to Lady Gaga or Katie Perry”. How is this, in any way, a relevant thing to say? What do Lady Gaga or Katie Perry have to do with disliking an element of SP? Why would these be the only bands a disappointed SP fan should be relegated to, and why are the people making these comments banishing the irritated SP fan to these particular artists? If I am an SP fan but disagree with something Billy Corgan says, I can’t comprehend how that suddenly brings Lady Gaga or Katie Perry into the picture; it’s completely unrelated and irrational. How does it make me suddenly interested in “teeny bopper” music?
@ drowning swan:
What in the world would be inherently wrong with “nice prompt releases” or “catchy music”? You seem to imply that late/delayed releases & inaccessible music would somehow be superior. WTF? Also, how do you have the inside scoop as to whether or not Lady Gaga/Katy Perry (I don’t know any of their songs, at all, myself) will “try anything new in terms of art or marketing”? Whether they do or not has no bearing on my interest in these completely random and limited choices you’ve presented as to what music to enjoy. And why would I care what any artist does in terms of “marketing”? I personally don’t give a fuck about any “marketing”, period. What does “go stand in line with the other teeny boopers (sic)” even mean? What line?
Also–how does “waiting patiently” somehow make you a better fan? I’d wager that having fans who are impatient to hear your new music is pretty complimentary and flattering. Who gives a shit about different fans’ varying levels of patience or impatience, anyway?
I’m looking forward to Oceania more than the single releases for Teargarden, but there’s something to be said for the element of surprise and excitement. Announcing your announcements can really only lead to an annoyed fanbase. I’d rather they didn’t tease us–just announce it when it’s ready. One of my happiest album announcement experiences came with the latest Radiohead album, where they literally just had a big “THANK YOU FOR WAITING” banner that linked to a place to preorder. The album came out a week later. Maybe not the smartest decision from a marketing standpoint, but they knew that the fast spread of the message to relevant fans meant that they didn’t need months of buildup. Repetition of the message only goes so far.
I think the point drowning swan is making is that Katie Perry and other artists make music for the now, while artists like Billy make music for beyond the now
Jonk: Why bother justifying what drowning swan wrote? I absolutely agree with “gsmamz” – I´ve noticed that pattern too. It tends to recur in a very similar form every now and then and it´s really annoying to say the least.
As much as the teases can be irritating, at the end of the day I don’t mind them. It would have been cool to be teased with a blurred picture of a close up of the artwork or something.
And the way I see it we’re waiting ’til June either way, so the end of waiting remains the same for me.
no no this is “kate perry” – and shes proper shite. Even the teeny boopers don’t like her.
bugger off and have a wank over ryan giggs in a copy of shoot from 1992
1/10 for effort
signed with emi. record comes out june 19th.
All you losers that think that Katy Perry and Lady Gaga are irrelevant to the discussion can go listen to Nickelback!
Oceania out 19/6: CD / 2LP, EMI/Caroline!
I hope they go back to a proper website. I miss the old website that was like a social network for fans. Met a lot of cool people on there. Can’t wait to spin the 2LP on my turntable! Hurry up!
As always for me I’m very excited to hear Oceania. What really got me excited for the album was listening to the Teargarden songs. I didn’t like them half as much as I do now. Those songs are stunning! If Billy could make music of such quality with only a few musicians in the studio, I can’t imagine what Oceania will sound like with the full band. That album is going to be sick! Can’t wait until June 19th!
since someone mentioned katy perry, let’s just discuss her fantastic rack for the rest of the thread. kthx.
( o )( o )
not a fan of giggsy then?
roll on the 19th june
i am not taking the stance of quick release is inferrior or that catchy music is not as relevant. no no, i am speaking to the “sp” fans that do nothing but complain about the delays and the lack of “catchy” or rather lack of true pop music billy is putting out. My point is if you want the quick release and the pop catchy radio song you have to look elsewhere not here because you wont get it here with sp. now the most obvious figures that represent the quick release and super catchy radio music right now is kate perry/lady gaga…so gaga and perry are just representation of that way which the majority know and can understand. and when people say the kate perry thing to you or anybody they are saying you like kate perry they are saying if you are only gonna bitch and complain about everything then find something else that gives yo what you want cause it aint here. there is debate and there is just negative people that do nothing but complain just to complain. those are the poeple the kate perry coments are for. if you are one of those take to offense then its not directed to you. and as for marketing i am saying that record companies and their puppets dont try anything new they milk the old ways for everything they are worth with no interests in anything but profit. its this mindsest that is one of the reasons for the decline of the record industry which in the end means less great music for us. so its about something bigger than finding music to work out too. thats the point. sp is trying to do something bigger while the kate perry (again kate is just a representation of the all for money not art way of thinking) are just in it for attention and the pay off. i do apologies if i offended you but i feel the way i do and respect your opinion as well
where did i say i am a better fan? You seem to be making the assumptions here. i said that me and the other sp fans will be waiting patiently…..never said we are better. just that we understand what billy is trying to do, and we understand where he is in his life, and instead of giving the guy shite about it, we appreciate his passions and that he’s older now and has other intrest but is still putting out interesting tunes. and it does take longer to put out and album in which you are truly trying to create something new and exciting etc. again back to the popstar (sorry) but if you are putting out songs for cash it is a much quicker process…
my question for you is, if you are commenting to me about how i am dissmisive well what about yourself. i stated an opinion you didnt agree with and you where dissimisive towards me. i am ok with that but glass houses man
its not justifying, he is seeing both sides. i see your side as well. it is frustrating but i just feel alot of that is because of how things work now everything is instant gratification…..mp3 leaks, quick releases, movies online, facebook, im, text etc etc and sp is not playing that game and that is a good thing. the continuing thought of why wait just make music to sell and put it out now is why the industry is failing fast and i also feel one of the roots to alot of bigger social problems we have. anyhow i have to go wank off to ryan giggs now
tiddy-boom .. tish
it is well worth waiting if Billy gets it right. Teargarden probably suffers from being a bit disjointed and not having a settled band all the way through etc although there are really good songs on there.
the best albums are when he really throws himself into it and goes all prolific knocking out songs. And that was with in-fighting etc now he has a cohesive unit of a band and we should be happy about that. Albums, well good ones, often take a couple of years in the making, marketing etc so its fine to wait until june
I really like katy perry because she is just a very nice singer and i love all of her songs.
