James Iha is to start 2012 off with a bang, according to his artist website at EMI Japan. The website indicates that Iha plans to re-release his 1998 debut solo album, Let it Come Down, in Japan on February 15, 2012. The re-release is to feature “digital remastering supervised by James Iha” and two bonus tracks, “Take Care,” and “Falling,” which had previously been available only on the “Be Strong Now” single. Also included will be the track “My Advice,” which had previously been available on the same “Be Strong Now” single, or as a bonus track on Japanese pressings of Let It Come Down. Just following the re-release, Iha will play the Japanese music festival EMI Rocks in Saitama on February 19. These activities serve as the lead-up to the release of his long-awaited second solo album, which is due out in March. Presumably, the re-release and new album will be distributed by EMI Japan.
The twitter account @SPFansJPN has been tweeting about the news as well, so Japanese readers might want to follow them for timely updates. James Iha’s own website and Facebook page show no indication of these developments.
Thanks to reader Ryotaro for the tip.
Maybe pmack can finally stop hoarding the Iha solo recording from March of ’98 now, geez :)
I have also heard James is going to be a Dad soon anyone know if this is the case?
YESSSS! LET IT COME DOWN 2: JAPANESE DEMOCRACY STARTS IN MARCH!
Will there be a Jim Scott 2012 mix of Falling? Because I always felt it a bit muffled. Seriously though, song is awesome.
This gives rise to the more important question of when the next Tinted Windows album is coming out :(
@chris i have a copy of that h04rd3d solo show. cuz i’m 1337 like that 8-)
this has got to be the work of the most epic troll ever.
can’t wait to read all the let it come down reissue vs SP reissues flame wars – not to mention the let it come down 2 vs oceania threads.
oh boy…
um, yeah, i doubt that’ll happen
@shaniqua: I have one of them too, it’s the *other* one that’s hoarded (it slips my mind which was circulated, and my cassettes are packed away).
this made me listen to ‘never ever’ – ive always liked that tune and only wished it were a few minutes longer
i dunno, that solo album always sounded like bland and forgetable pop songs to me, not excited at all for another one.
I love LICD and have definitely been looking forward to the follow-up…not sure if I’ll go for the reissue though since all the bonus tracks are on the single (which I don’t have but it’s always on eBay so yeah).
LOL @ shaniqua
Also, interesting coincidence: Base Ball Bear was also on the Linda Linda Linda soundtrack, which James scored.

You’re taping this thing, right 34? ;)
Best Xmas gift ever, this news. :-) Awesome.
hyperhole “best”, right?
@Ed. Yay! Do I win a prize? :P
@chris But of course!
Oh, nice! Can’t wait.
I can’t wait to hear that. I also wonder how his voice aged. Oh and him playing live solo, that didn’t happen a lot in the past has it?
I remember he played a set half his songs half Billy singing on Adore songs right? Does anyone know by the way if I can hear this show somewhere? Or any James live solo audio? Thanks in advance!
@Is he one?
Iha did a tiny solo tour in 1998 to support Let It Come Down.

Click on that link and sort by James Iha (solo), and you’ll see that the only other solo James show SPFC lists is a benefit show in 2006, where James was part of an ensemble with many other artists.
The show you’re thinking of with a half James solo set and a half Billy solo set is 1998/01/15, Viper Room.

Thank you Susan! :)
Wondering if EMI has intentionally chosen to do the reissue/new album on the same timeframe as the Pumpkins stuff. Hm.
@Johnny
Good question. I had that thought myself. Personally, I’m really curious as to what the US and international distribution situation will be. Still nothing on James’s website, facebook, or twitter.
