The Smashing Pumpkins will finish their European tour with a two-night stand at Lisbon’s Campo Pequeno bullring beginning this evening. The band has often pulled out surprises when they play two shows in the same city (most recently a guest appearance by Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel in London), so we’ll keep this post updated with any interesting developments.
The European tour thus far has featured a setlist quite similar to the one refined during the band’s tour of the United States in October, with the notable additions of “Zero” and “Tonight, Tonight.” “To Sheila” and “I Am One” have also made appearances.
After Portugal, frontman Billy Corgan has said he plans to spend the winter holidays in Australia with his girlfriend, Jessica Origliasso of The Veronicas. The Pumpkins are then said to be heading for Los Angeles in January to record new demos. On January 13, Corgan plans to attend Resistance Pro’s second event in Chicago.
UPDATE: Portuguese website Blitz has posted a concert review and full setlist. The band did break out “Today” during the encore. Apparently, bassist Nicole Fiorentino came down with food poisoning during the show. Billy Corgan reported suffering from the same ailment a day earlier in Madrid. I’ll try to update the twitter list I started today for tomorrow’s show, but I’m not finding many users – tweet @HipstersUnited if you’re going to the last Pumpkins show of 2011!
UPDATE (12/9, 8:19am CST): A bunch of concert videos have shown up on Youtube. Check out two takes of “Today.”
UPDATE (12/9, 6:40pm CST): Corgan came out for a solo performance of “Disarm” during the encore.
UPDATE (12/10, 2:20pm CST): Video of “Disarm” here. A Portuguese blog has posted a setlist for last night’s show, which if accurate would reflect several major changes to the setlist – including “Song for a Son” and “I Am One” during the encore.
Susan, you’re great. Will you go out with me?? :-D
Hey I know this is an odd thread to ask this but does anyone know how I can hear a version of “Thru the eyes of Ruby” with Kenny Aronoff playing? This would around the end of 1998, I just noticed they did play it with him during a couple of shows after the end of the Adore tour. I think when they opened for Kiss at their Halloween party, they did play it. I just can’t find any audio version of it… well if anyone can help. Thanks anyway!
Oh and, Susan, you’re awesome. ;-)
