“Chris” does not sound happy about the cancellation. Might as well kick out Mike at this point because he is clearly done with them
Billy will have another album’s worth of material recorded before Oceania even comes out. sheesh.
Yes! Keep making demos! But let us hear some of those demos.. Billy seems to write a lot of new material while on tour…
Its a possibility that the record label they’re shopping Oceania to wanted them to go back in the studio and record some more “radio friendly” tracks. Same thing happened with the new Bush album.
I cant see why he’d spring that on Mike last minute if it was any other reason.
Mush! Mush! *cracks whip*
I dunno Matt, we’ll see if there are any changes to the tracklisting in future
HAHAHA! That blog post is pretty hilarious. You shouldn’t post on your band’s blog when you’re so clearly irritated with one particular member- especially when you’re going to name names. That was on some passive aggressive shit! HAHAHA
@ Matt
Interesting thought. If it’s the case, maybe it means we’ll get some decent/additional bonus tracks…? Then again, Billy’s been stating the specific time length of the album (~60 minutes long?), even as of the recent Italian interview.
Matt that’s what I’m thinking too
No way it’s gonna have something to do with Oceania. First, the recordings are done for 2 oder 3 months. The record right now lies on some table with Billy asking himself how to release it with the biggste impact. Any talk of bonus EPs, or future releases like American gothic was in the Zeitgeist era is pure speculation.
Second, Billy was done with record labels for a long time. He won’t sign a contract that guarantees the label rights to interfere in creative descisions at this time in his career.. He will not discuss Song selection, radio singles, etc. with that label. The label only releases the final product.
My guess is, this comes down to Billy’s work ethic and the commitment he demands of his bandmates. He simply has some songs he wants demoed. Pumpkins are the top priority, not some Mathrock band from Mikes hometown.
“Same thing happened with the new Bush album.”
Thats why Bush sucks. BC would never compromise an album.
I wish Mike was our spy on the inside – and could leak these demos for us :(

^^^
that’s in turn why BC sucks with album / studio recording haha. :p
i understand being sad but without mike would we even be mentioning bearcubbin…no so they should be happy with what they have. exposure even just a little like they are getting now is a very very very lucky break. most bands never get beyound their local area nevermind being discussed on the interenet by fans across the world.

hahah god thatd be so awesome
best spy ever
i wonder if they really were upset about the canceled tour. It’s great marketing for them. i mean i knew he was in that band but didnt know anything else about them. now do to mike’s obligations with sp, i know the band was gonna tour, another memeber is named chris and i even looked at their website all just because of this little post.
@drowning swan
That’s awfully presumptuous of you. What makes you think that the guy even cares about the exposure? How are they being discussed by fans across the world? Would they even care? You’re really overestimating the effect this has them. He could very well be a guy that loves to play with his band and was really looking forward to it. If he put as much effort into it as he claimed then it’s understandable that he’s peeved. I would be upset too if my buddy gave priority to someone else.
Maybe Bearcubbin’ should fire Mike and get another drummer like Jimmy Chamberlain, Matt Walker, Matt Cameron,or Kenny Arnoff. Or replace Mike with a drum machine.
Kenny Aronoff in Bearcubbin’

Well it is interesting they’re going back to LA to demo right after a fairly extensive tour of the US and Europe.
Obviously you don’t want label interference, but Billy also said he would have picked Jellybelly as the 1st single for MCIS. ;)
Also to throw in a Blur reference, Damon thought Modern Life Is Rubbish was already finished when the record company wanted more radio friendly songs. Damon was irritated but wrote For Tomorrow and Chemical World.
Sometimes it works. :)
Billy is in an interesting position – he talks a lot about how he doesn’t need money and how he can release the album on his own terms, but as soon as people started getting excited for the new songs, suddenly he fires his management and goes label-shopping.
What does he really have to offer a record company at this point? If they’re going to market and distribute the album, which is really all they’re good for, he needs to be able to give them something to market the album with.
I sincerely doubt Quasar or Oceania are going to be tracks that set the world on fire, no matter how good they are.
Poor Bearcubbin. Mike’s drumming in this band is more merit worthy than anything he’s done in SP. Not that that is saying much.
Always a very worthy contribution to the discussion Drevpile, you’re truly a hoot.
