Or at least, stores that still sell music do…or will, once they open for business today.

Tell us where you got them (and which format), what you paid (or what you were asked to pay but wouldn’t), and what you think!

1. merp - 10:09 am // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I got mine on Amazon. Both deluxe versions and the vinyl versions for $87 with free shipping, and I should get them today! Can’t wait to spin these bad boys!

2. Is he one? - 10:41 am // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Nice!
Billy Corgan actually smashed guitars though! ;)

3. Silvermayo - 11:07 am // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Best Buy has both Deluxe CD/DVD editions on sale for $24.99 ea. A little cheaper option for anyone that hasn’t already picked them up.

4. werideatdusk - 11:36 am // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I bought the CD/DVD’s from the SP store directly, seems like the band gets like twice as much royalties from that while the consumer only pays a couple more dollars. As a musician, I thought that the best way to go.

That said, I did cut a corner and got the Gish vinyl on Amazon.

I also ordered the download of the 24-bit/96k source audio of Siamese Dream. Hearing Billy rave about the sound quality was enough. Gonna burn that to a DVD and cue up the ol’ hi-fi!

So I guess the total cost of all the reissues will run me several hundred dollars. Worth it?

5. Dystopic - 11:45 am // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

There is a lot of cool stuff here. Loving USA and Seam. The 2011 mixes are really awful, though.

6. thefred - 11:49 am // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

^^^
2011 Starla is particularly offensive. garbage. Instrumental Soma is pure bliss. You can hear lot’s of nuances that get lost in the mix when vocals are thrown in there. U.S.A. rawks.

7. neverthehero - 12:11 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

any chance this gets thrown in Amazon’s holiday sales? :)

@werideatdusk think you can post a short review of the 24-bit/96k experience soon?

8. monocoque - 12:19 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I always thought Kerry Brown as a music producer is bad for SP/Billy and this is another confirmation…

Billy should ditch him before he touch Mellon Collie, Adore…and especially the precious Machina 2.

9. xblisteredavalon - 12:21 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

a record store near me is selling them with a free litho or something. not sure what it looks like but ill see tomorrow when i go buy the siamese dream.

10. jjb - 12:30 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Just snagged that Best Buy deal that Silvermayo mentioned, but I won’t get around to opening/listening/watching until tonight

11. snowy - 12:47 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

So, how do they sound? Is it a profound difference?

12. jibernish - 12:48 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Not happy that I had my wife order it from sp.com for my birthday 2 weeks ago. It hasn’t even shipped yet, plus it cost more. I’m all for having more of the money go to the band, but I shouldn’t have to wait and pay more at the same time.

I want to buy the 24/96 download, but am not sure how to properly listen to it. I have a dvd-audio player at home, but it looks like it’s pretty difficult to burn one of those discs. And I can’t find out if my pc even supports 24/96 playback, or if it will downsample it. Per the sp website, internet explorer can’t even reliably download the file.

13. crookedsparrow - 1:00 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

also a bit bummed that I preordered these from sp.com back in october and foolishly expected them to be shipped out in order to arrive today. like the poster above said, they haven’t even shipped yet.

14. Phillip - 1:09 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

There’s no incentive to buy from sp.com, I did this too for the physical copies, unless it’s a digital copy from topspin I am done helping support that sinking ship. I got 4 free downloads but put something there that sought after to drive sales if you’re going to make us wait.

15. Nick - 1:16 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

So far, it sounds brighter overall. The loud parts are noticeably louder, but it seems like they took pains not to compress the dynamic songs to death, so the quiet parts are still quiet. Everything is bit more upfront, so it’s somewhat less “ethereal.”

16. chris - 1:24 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I’m planning on stopping at Best Buy on the way home for the $24.99 deals. Looking forward to hearing the bonus tracks.

17. Redhawk - 1:52 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I pre-ordered from Amazon for $22 per deluxe set and mine were delivered today.

18. chris - 2:02 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

The picture looks like it was taken in a cube farm straight out of Office Space. Umm, yeah…I’m gonna need you to listen to this reissue on Saturday…yeah.

19. Jonk - 2:12 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I think I will check out the SD one at Best Buy, hopefully. From preview tracks on Amazon, I thought Cherub Rock sounded brutal

20. arbitraryhandle - 2:29 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Picked mine up at Best Buy. Sticker on package says 15 bonus tracks for Gish and 17 for SD, but both have 18. Also, for the SD DVD, Drown is listed as ‘Down’ on the temporary paper tracklist on the back of the package; listed correctly in the other proper materials.

Both comes with an exclusive SPRC download. Haven’t checked out what these tracks are yet, but it’s a good piece of advertising.

21. Joe@joe.com - 2:29 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Had to get it at FYE at the local mall in Pittsburgh suburbs. I got the only copies of each album. Best Buy said they had it online, they didn’t in stores. Fat-ass at the local corporate used record chain laughed at me and said he bought the only copies that were ordered. Was very pissed.Surprised they had them at FYE though. 29.99

Haven’t had much of a chance to listen to any of the remasters, only the 2nd disc in the car driving home. Starla solo sounds a bit different, in a good way. Seems to be a little farther back in the mix. Love the sound though.

22. Joe@joe.com - 2:33 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

also has anyone figured out where you enter the code included with the sets to download the “free rare unreleased track”

23. arbitraryhandle - 2:36 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

@Joe@joe.com I had the same question, but the website says:

“All orders of Gish and/or Siamese Dream include an instant download of the four tracks that have been previously available only through the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club (SPRC) – the 8-track demo of “Drown,” “Suicide Kiss Geek” (no vox), “Barb Wire” and “Rhinoceros Version 2.””

Makes it sound like that’s all there is, what we’ve already heard, but why the unique download code? Maybe we’ll get something in the future?

24. IncliningPizza - 2:48 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I go to the University of Ottawa in Canada. After my French class this morning, I ran out of the building, down the street to the record store, and right when I walked in it was right there on display. As I was walking in I just grabbed both Siamese Dream and Gish, walked up to the counter, paid, and then ran home in the cold rain storm that’s currently pouring outside.

When Mellon Collie gets reissued on vinyl, I’ll be there from midnight until opening. :D

25. chris - 2:49 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Wasn’t there also an SPRC Frail and Bedazzled demo that you got if you ordered through the SP.com store? Perhaps that’s the “exclusive” download.

26. werideatdusk - 3:12 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

@IncliningPizza
Nice, I love that your listening to these was preceded by some kind of magic in the air.

-Will get back to you folks about the 24k. I was under the impression that you can burn them as a DVD-Video (or Audio) and that a regular DVD player can handle em. I’ve got some pretty nice Bose speakers hooked up so I’m gonna get cozy, get the hobbit pipe out and enjoy the secrets of the secret sound…

27. gyang333 - 3:19 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I’m in London, ON. Went to Sunrise Records and got both for 24.99 each.

28. CB - 3:42 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Downloaded the 24/96 SD, and it sounds fantastic. I love hearing (what appears to be) some of the background guitar noises brought to the forefront, the better stereo imaging, etc. If you have the gear to utilize the 24 bit files, I highly suggest getting them, even if you’ve already purchased the regular CD version.

All in all, a great job on the remastered SD.

29. KingChris - 4:09 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I bought the 24/96. Can’t wait to listen to it. I would recomend that set over any other as you can always downsample it to play on anything, but it is the best quality possible.

30. T. - 4:18 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Wow, the chick on the pic looks familiar to somebody i know :D. Good memories :>
Kudos to the girl on the pic!

31. Just_erick - 5:00 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

@ Chris, I thought Frail was givin out for paid download on SPRC (or at least I think thats what Kerry said)sometime in the near future? Either way I really want my hands on that instrumental version of Frail and Bedazzled. If you guys have not had the chance to hear it, you absolutely have to, its incredible good.

And I go my Gish at Best Buy for 24.99, Siamese Dream was sold out which was really lame, either that or the guy I asked was too lazy to see if they had anymore in the back (which is what I bet happened) so I went to target to see if they have it and they unfortunately are not holding either re-issues. What a bummer,I’ll just check out my local spots to see f they will carry it but its doubtful.

32. dustrock - 5:09 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I’m really liking the bonus stuff other than the 2011 mixes, but I’m not really feeling the “remaster” of SD at this point (haven’t got to Gish yet). I felt it worked for Disarm but not for a song like Cherub Rock. Some of the fuzz is gone, the little guitar licks are a bit more to the back, and Billy’s vocals are drier.

It doesn’t sound horrible, don’t get me wrong, but certainly no real improvement over the original. But then, IMHO, this wasn’t a case like say The Beatles or REM’s Murmur or Reckoning where the remaster made a noticeable difference.

33. Jonk - 5:25 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Haven’t read all the comments yet, but thought I’d let everyone know that there are two Best Buys here in Anchorage, AK. Went to the bigger one, and didn’t see it (Siamese Dream reissue)- I asked someone about it, and they looked on the computer and said it was on order (I think), and that the closest Best Buy that had a copy on hand was in Oregon(!). Will check to see if WalMart or Barnes & Noble have it

34. Jonk - 5:32 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

btw I should have mentioned I didn’t see Gish either

35. Drevpile - 5:35 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

woot. Thanks Billy. Hearing Moleasskiss again made me fall in love with the band again. gg.

However, I’ve only listened to the bonus discs – and Kerry, you are a proper numpty. Still, his failings aside, it’s a reet solid collection that absolutely captures why I loved this band in the first… I’ll more than happily live in this past of re-issues… (if you sit just the bonus discs next to teargarden, that looks even weaker than ever – who would have thunk it possible!?). Anyway, that’s by and by.

Looking forward to getting the full packages when they ship… on the 5th… :|

36. Drevpile - 5:44 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Moleasskiss (the swing, THE SWING… ah) is my new favourite old song. Would have loved to have Cinder on the Gish bonus however.

37. Sean - 6:26 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I went to my local ‘Zia Records’ the other night and put both vinyls on hold. They got in 3 of each and I snagged the last set ($18.99 for Gish, $23.99 for SD). Picked them up just now and listening to SD.

I think the higher quality is most noticeable on (thus far) Disarm and Soma, it’s an improvement to be sure, but as someone already pointed not nearly as obvious as say The Beatles’ remasters. Packaging is very nice and I got a lithograph with each one, all in all I’m happy.

38. Jonk - 6:35 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Apparently my local Best Buy did have multiple copies in stock. I think. Someone is checking on it for me right now (I’m having them check before I drive back over there)

39. chris - 7:12 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I picked mine up at Best Buy. Haven’t had a chance to even open the package yet, but I wanted to forewarn folks that my particular Best Buy was selling both for $26.99. No discount :( Good news was they had plenty in stock, at least.

@Jonk: A true fan would drive to Oregon. Just saying. :)

@Drevpile: Welcome to the club. Moleasskiss is probably the best unreleased Pumpkins song IMHO (although not anymore, I guess, as it’s released. What song will take its place?).

40. zanzabar - 7:26 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

i wanna hear more about this Litho that someone alleged earlier…

41. pug - 7:57 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Ordered mine on sp.com but I’m in Australia so expected delays :)

Might go with amazon next time.!!!

42. Woody - 8:08 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

@pug I’m in Australia too. I ordered the standard CDs from SP.com to get the ‘welcome package’ and the deluxe CDs + vinyls from Amazon (a fair bit cheaper)…. Amazon has given the expected arrival date as the 5th of Jan. (hopefully it won’t take that long)… SP.com tells me they shipped the CDs yesterday. We’ll see which gets here (Melbourne) first.

43. werideatdusk - 8:12 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Whats the deal with these in store lithographs? Anyone have a pic?

44. ddb - 9:01 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Picked up the Siamese Dream boxset today at HMV in Montreal… wow. Awesome art, just a REALLY beautiful production. I’ve only listened to the rarities disc so far, and it is already worth the price of admission ($27.99 cdn).

Can’t wait to pick up Gish, and more reissued albums, and Oceania next year!! Great time to be an SP fan.

45. Ryan - 9:22 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Has anyone who ordered thru SP.com received the physical CD/DVD’s yet? This is a joke, this company they went thru, Topspin Media.

I can’t get a straight answer, there is apparently no phone number listed for them either. If you do a google search all you get is customer complaints about stuff not showing up when promised.

I purposely paid more at SP.com in the hopes of helping out the band and getting the music FIRST, when it came out!!!! Boy do I feel like an idiot.

46. ian - 9:47 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Just got a notice from Topspin saying that because there were SO MANY ORDERS that some physical copies will be shipping later than they thought. Good thing I did that pre-order! This drum-machine version of Frail and Bedazzled is Tooootaaallly worth it! :P

(I’m just sassy because I am really excited to open my Gish/SD deluxes open. No downloads for me! I’m waiting for the real deal!)

47. Ryan - 10:00 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Yeah I just got that email too… Fuckin’ bullshit as far as I’m concerned!

I’m gonna go buy them at my local record store and cross my fingers that they arrive before Xmas and if so, my girlfriend will get them!!! =)

48. mondo goosewhile - 10:01 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Dear Smashing Pumpkins Fan,

We’re thrilled that we received so many pre-orders for Gish and Siamese Dream. Merchandise is arriving to fans throughout this week and early next week.

Due to the sheer number of orders some of the physical products will ship out later than expected but we’re working as quickly as possible to get them all processed. All pre-orders will be in the mail no later than Tuesday, December 6th.

Thank you so much for your patience and we hope you enjoy these special reissues.

The SPRC Support Team

49. chris - 10:15 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Jesus is the Sun sounds absolutely phenomenal, as of course does Moleasskiss. It just makes me wish they included more of the Mashed Potatoes stuff. Here’s hoping they do with the Pisces bonus disc. So far I think the SD bonus disc is far superior to the Gish one. BBC Quiet is awesome, Siamese Dream is weird and interesting, and this is a much better mix of the HKK demo than I previously had.

50. redhandcorgan - 10:34 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I thought bolly didnt want to relive the past?? Remember when jimmy said all the old songs were buried and never coming back and now all this??? Strange how many times bolly changes his mind what he wants to do and what direction his SP is going………… going no where fast!!!!!!!!! no where to be!!!!!!

51. 34 - 10:54 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I ordered one of everything from SP.com (except the non-hifi downloads), for a grand total of $235 w/ shipping. Got no less than 7 emails that my order “has been updated”, and 2 other updates- one posted above, & one regarding the digital orders:

Dear Smashing Pumpkins fan,

We wanted to extend our apology for the unusual wait with regard to the digital
file delivery last night. A technical glitch within digital delivery to the
store has been fixed and everyone who pre-ordered a digital release should now
have an updated receipt with a download link.

We understand the anticipation of a new record more than anyone – and we are
sorry cherished fans had to wait.

For those of you who ordered the 24-bit, 96kHz WAV files, please note your
downloads are large files in the realm of 700MB and will take a long time. You
may want to use Firefox, Safari or Chrome for this download as Internet
Explorer is sometimes incompatible with large downloads.

If any of you experience trouble with your download, please do reach out to
Customer Support.

700M my ass- both Gish & SD hifi zips are 4G each. They must not’ve set that field as a variable. :P” They’re at about 3.5G each now, over 4h later.

Kinda bummed that stores are doing the litho thing. Although I doubt they’d have anything similar here in Japan. I’ve gotten a ton of promo posters w/ other releases from Tower here, but just JP bands, nothing imported.

52. 34 - 10:58 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

Oh, each of my other mails so far just says “acknowledged” for the status of the physical releases. Who knows when they’ll ship. I find it hard to believe that they suddenly had a huge influx of orders at the last minute. “Planning? What’s that?” -_-;

53. susan - 11:18 pm // Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I’m sort of LOLing at “cherished fan.”

Just watched the Gish DVD and I have to say the whole experience pretty much brought me a feeling of unmitigated joy. Siamese Dream tomorrow, I think.

54. Phillip - 12:12 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

In the end when you touch up a piece of art some people just aren’t going to like it but my I have a cousin who is a big sp fan so the album I bought from SP.com is going to be christmas present, as I went and got SD from best buy today, and when threw the CD in my car, I was AMAZED at how Cherub Rock erupted through my speakers, I disagree with some previous post, the sound is loud and amazing. I just saw SP in October and that’s always what I felt was missing from the albums the shear brutality of Corgan on guitar, and I think the remaster helps capture that.

55. neverLOST - 12:18 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I really love the sonic clarity of GISH much improved. I haven’t listened to SD yet. I felt it was too overwhelming to listen to both in one day. Tomorrow I’ll listen to that. What a great year to be a PUMPKINS fan!

56. SPForever247 - 7:20 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I’m really disappointed that I pre-ordered both Gish and Siamese Dream through the sp.com website and got that e-mail that has been mentioned previously that my order might not ship until December 6th. WTF! I am all about the band getting more of a cut ordering through the wbsite but if Top Spin will be “overwhelmed” every time there is a pre-order/re-issue, I’m going to get mine through amazon.com.

57. snowtrooper - 7:39 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

why is the gish bonus titled, but the sd bonus not?
i liked reading his song by song run-down – well done!

58. merp - 10:01 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Got mine last night and they are so beautiful. I almost cried. My LPs arrived in mint condition. They even put the LP in a generic sleeve and packaged an extra printed sleeve with it so there would be no seem splits, which is a great idea. Listening to the Gish reissue now and I love it. I think it sounds great. Just little nuances I never noticed before and it’s like reliving it. Best remaster since Pretty Hate Machine. Can’t wait to dive into SD. After I listen to them separately, I plan on listening to the old track and the new track to get more of a feel for the differences. I can’t wait for the others already! :D

59. Saturnineage - 10:50 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I don’t really understand how Top Spin could be “overwhelmed” by orders if so many people pre-ordered. By that nature, they know exactly how many to print and ship BEFORE the ship date. I put in my order for SD the day they went on sale. It’s not like I waited until the last minute. It’s like airlines selling your seat even though you bought a ticket way in advance. I also pre-ordered Gish from Best Buy, and they haven’t shipped yet either. Fucking bullshit.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where he reserves a rental car, and they say they don’t have it.

60. ziggy - 11:03 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I bought the 2 CD+ DVD version of Siamese Dream for $38.59 tax included at Hastings. :) I didnt really have the money for both Gish and Siamese Dream so I will wait until next paycheck for Gish.

61. monocoque - 11:48 am // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Packaged in USA
Disc(s) Mexico

62. jibernish - 12:25 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

@Saturnineage: you have it exactly right. They knew how many orders they had to fill. This didn’t just come out of nowhere and hit them over the head. My anger over this has only grown since yesterday.

My wife bought these for me for my birthday so I don’t know the answer to this – but has anyone’s credit card been charged yet? Some companies don’t charge until product is shipped and I was thinking about trying to cancel the order through and just going to Best Buy to pick it up. I know with UPS, if you refuse the order, you often get a refund. I wonder if I could do that here.

Waiting until next week to have it shipped, then waiting for it to get to me is completely unacceptable, and these a**holes don’t even have readily accessible customer support avenues to complain to.

63. werideatdusk - 12:26 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Listened to the Gish vinyl last night, not the full, focused sit-down listen that it deserves, but the clarity and bass presence are incredible. A huge step up from the previous Caroline vinyl. It sounds more “Pumpkinsy” to me, warmer and sweeter somehow. The dynamics are as crazy as ever, happily!

Kinda bummed that Topspin has really mangled the direct ordering of CD/DVDs. Like some others I wanted to order through them to support the band. Unfortunately this shit service means I’ll have to order thru Amazon/etc in the future. At least I got my hd siamese dream, will be listening to that soon.

Either way this year continues to be the best time to be an SP fan since the breakup, in my book!

64. jibernish - 12:36 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

You can complain to Topspin specifically about your Smashing Pumpkins order here (click on Fan Support Department):

http://support.topspinmedia.com/entries/20528093-when-will-my-order-ship

I hope none of this falls back on Billy. I don’t know he would have known how shoddy these people are.

65. Kiernana - 12:48 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Maybe, but he knows now. Next time I’ll order from Amazon too. Cheaper and better service? Uhh…no brainer! I like supporting the band as much as possible, but you’d almost think the ppl ordering via SPRC would have had their orders fulfilled FIRST and maybe even a week EARLY. Not have to wait it out while the average Joe goes walks into Best Buy, sees it’s on sale, and gets to buy it.

66. crookedsparrow - 12:55 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

@jibernish

my card was charged the date I ordered, Oct 18th. I certainly don’t blame the band for this, but I hope they retool the system for the future reissues if they want me to buy them directly from the site again.

67. Jonk - 1:17 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

My local Best Buy didn’t seem to sure if they had them or not. They called me back saying they didn’t couldn’t find them. My other guess was Barnes & Noble, where they sell it for 36.89. I called my local one and they only located the CD-only reissue.

Anyone know if Walmart might sell the CD/DVD reissue for SD or Gish?

Might have to go through Amazon, eh?

68. Saturnineage - 1:25 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I don’t blame the band for Top Spin’s incompetence. Billy didn’t have anything to do with it.

I mean, how do you NOT have enough copies to sell of a MULTI-PLATINUM album?

69. susan - 1:33 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Part of the reason I was hesitant to order from the SP site was the apparent slowness and other problems many people reported with their orders of the live show USBs… although I suppose that could have been attributed to Aderra (company doing the live recordings) instead of TopSpin.

Someone on the o-board had a great post about how buying Amazon can actually benefit the band, for example if it gets put on the Amazon best-seller list, it’ll appear various places on the site and actually drive more sales.

70. Jonk - 1:38 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I do want to purchase the CD/DVD- might have to go through Amazon. Found out that the aduio is on Spotify if you just *can’t* wait

71. ryan - 1:42 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I really like how that page suggests you can simply check your Live Receipt for status of your order. Mine still says “Acknowledged”. I think that means they’re aware I ordered them.

72. Kiernana - 1:49 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Evidently Capt. Picard is updating Live Receipt statuses.

73. Drevpile - 2:01 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

^ win. lock thread.

74. Justin - 2:05 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

“I mean, how do you NOT have enough copies to sell of a MULTI-PLATINUM album?”

My guess is that it has less to do with having enough copies than it does with not having enough man-power to pack and ship orders.

Still, lame excuse either way. They had over a month to arrange the shipments for this week. They should have had the cd’s in hand for over a week already, if not longer.

I’ll only order from the band if there’s incentives to do so. I like the idea that more money goes their way, but I also like to get my items in a timely manner.

75. Justin - 2:07 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I should have said “I’ll only order from the band AGAIN…”

While my cd’s are in some godforsaken warehouse somewhere, the Best Buy that’s 5 minutes away has both SD and Gish in stock. It’s almost like I’m being mocked.

Guess that’s what torrents are for.

76. Anth - 2:19 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

FWIW, they’re much slower than Amazon but DeepDiscount.com has both reissues for $21.95 each (free shipping).

77. Jonk - 2:47 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I dunno if it’s cause it’s been remastered or what, but Siamese Dream rocks (listening on Spotify)

78. soltmen - 2:52 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

So many spot on comments, werideatdusk,kiernana,spforever247,34. I should have learned my lessen when I overpaid for the teargarden release through sprc / Insound, and yes, probably the last to receive the order. I don’t mind slightly over paying for the peace of mind knowing I’ll get my copy without driving around all day to Best Buy but I don’t think it’s asking too much that these purchases arrive earlier. I hope TopSpin does a better job of packing for shipping than Insound. In the past, Insound had to re-ship LP’s 3 times before it arrived unscathed. Next time Amazon, they have their act together.

Yep. Funny TopSpin couldn’t handle the numbers they’ve been aware of for weeks upon weeks, yet Best Buys/HMVs/Amazon warehouses, etc. all across the continent received shipments of the albums, many of which will sit on shelves for days waiting for a passerby to pick them up. And we all get to gripe to each other about it. T3h awesome!

80. Adam - 3:47 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Paid 24.99 for the SD reissue. Didn’t have the $$ to buy both, so decided on my favorite of the two.

The bonus disc kicks some serious cunt. Forgot about how great a song Moleasskiss us.. grinning ear to ear listening to this. I’m also glad Bob Ludwig didn’t clip the hell out of the remaster.. it sounds really nice.

The live DVD is also great.. Starla and Mayo are standout performances.

They really put some care into this whole package. Wish Billy would have been less vague on the track by track annotations, but reading first part of the book was nice. No complaints here! Love living in the past!!

81. Adam - 3:53 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I’ll also ad that the box itself is a complete bitch to open.

82. chris - 4:46 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

@Adam: Yes, now I know where to store my passport and other sensitive documents where they can’t be stolen: inside those blasted boxes.

83. Adam - 4:49 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I’m on my umpteenth listen of moleasskiss.

This should have received the butch vig treatment, then slapped on siamese dream. or at least PI. Perfectly written tune and arrangement.. love all the fuzzy overdubs.. and as always jimmy brings the groove straight home. awesome awesome track. I feel 14 all over again. God bless the past!

84. Dystopic - 7:12 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I OD’d on Moleasskiss when Mashed Potatoes first leaked, so I’m not super excited about it in this set. But I have the exact same feeling about USA right now.

Hello people,

I have a question for audiophiles, or simply for those people, who know some stuff about audio etc.

Is it worth to buy the reissues in 24bit / 96K WAV format? Are these WAV’s are any better than those on CD? And is the bitrate higher than the standard WAV 1411kbps?

86. afk - 9:10 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Bought both reissues from FYE, came out to $58.~ after tax. Love these sets to death already – the liner notes alone are worth the money I think

87. afk - 9:11 pm // Wednesday, November 30, 2011

By the way, does anyone know where to redeem the SPRC codes that came in both boxes? Is it a link to Frail and Bedazzled or something else?

88. Stacy C - 12:05 am // Thursday, December 1, 2011

Picked mine up tonight at Best Buy. I got the CD/DVD packages for $24.99 each. I’m with everyone else–the boxes are a bitch to open. And, I’m enjoying the nostalgia.

89. jibernish - 7:25 am // Thursday, December 1, 2011

@rapapapa: I haven’t heard the SD or Gish 24 bit/96khz, but I have a SACD / DVD-Audio player at home that plays 24/96 music and the difference is like going from DVD to Blu-ray. If you can appreciate the extra detail of a blu-ray or high-def picture, you should be able to enjoy the hi-fi wav files too (provided you have good equipment to listen to it on).

A CD is 16 bit, 44.1 Khz. Both of these numbers refer to how much information is used to store the sound – so the more information available, the more closely the wav file will sound to the actual sounds coming out of Billy’s mouth and guitars.

It’s kinda like this: imagine you had to make 2 copies of Starry Night by Van Gogh. In the first copy, they gave you 16 colors and 44 minutes to complete the picture. In the second copy, they gave you 24 colors and 96 minutes. Assuming you had artistic skill, which do you think would look more like the original?

So with these wav files, the bit refers to how much information is recorded at each sample of the original music, the khz refers to how many times per second a sample is recorded/ played back.

In the hi-fi wav file, you should expect to hear things you never noticed before, and everything you hear should be clearer. The big problem with these files is that they aren’t as accessible. You will either need to listen to them on your computer with good speakers or headphones, or you will somehow need to burn it to a dvd and play it through your stereo at home. I just pulled out my SACD player this weekend to get ready for these files and played a disc for my wife (first time she heard it) and before even telling her it was a hi-fi recording, she stopped what she was doing and said, “What is this? That sounds really good.”

Hope that helps some.

@jibernish
thank you for the information, mate!

91. jon morgan photography - 11:00 am // Thursday, December 1, 2011

anybody figure the code out that came with the release??? this question seems to get ignored each time it is posted…

92. Aaron - 2:05 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

I’ve had trouble with the 24/96 download so far, reading as “invalid” on my computer. Indeed, seems these TopSpin folks kinda blow.

93. susan - 2:43 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

@jon morgan photography

According to Monte on the oboard (http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/board_new/index.php?showtopic=18349&view=findpost&p=637381), the redemption code should be able to be redeemed soon, but the bonus tracks are evidently things we’ve already had the opportunity to download online (http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/board_new/index.php?showtopic=18358&view=findpost&p=637093).

UPDATE: There is now a “REDEEM” link at the bottom of the official SP homepage.

94. jon morgan photography - 3:11 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

thank you susan!! unfortunately i am waiting still for SD to come in the mail. sadly I will not preorder from the topspin company next time it seems like they do not know what they are doing.

95. Topher - 3:25 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

I still haven’t gotten mine yet either. Should have came the day of release. If I do not get it Tomorrow, I’m gonna be very angry.

96. jon morgan photography - 3:52 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

not trying to bitch on the forum but seriously very lame. I ordered mine the day I got the email and now instead of enjoying the reissues im waiting on the one i ordered while looking at others sit on the shelf the day of the release. i thought maybe at least an mp3 link would have been offered as well since the delay is pretty substantial.

97. crookedsparrow - 6:14 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

got the following from topspin

“manufacturing and shipping delays of the product to the warehouse are the cause for the delays.

also, plz check your original receipt. we aren’t actually the fulfiller for the pre-orders. Plz email the fulfiller with ?s”

so, albums appeared on shelves in the retail stores on time, but there were manufacturing delays on the pre-orders?

like many, my order is still stuck on acknowledged.

98. meatloafkitten - 6:30 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

@Aaron
I, too, ended up getting an ‘Invalid Archive’ (or whatever) error on the 96k Siamese Dream download. First using the built-in Windows ZIP handler, then 7-zip, then Winzip… after downloading twice. Finally, I tried WinRar. WinRar still throws an error message, but it also ends up extracting all the files. Not 100% sure or not whether all the files are 100% okay, but so far I’m about 8 songs into the album and it all sounds awesome – no audible problems. I’m still probably going to try downloading again at some point, but I’m less bummed now that I can actually listen to something.

99. Ryan - 9:47 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

This is all a bunch of nonsense! I emailed them a very pointed message two days ago (to 5 different email addresses I found) and have not heard a single thing.

I also see that this was just posted in the last hour or so on the Pumpkins Facebook page. I’ve copied and pasted it below (from a guy named Kevin Lang)

Kevin Lang: I just got an emial back from TopSpin. They don’t have product. They haven’t shipped mine (which i ordered a month ago) and have no idea when they will ship it. Fans… do NOT go through the SP website for these sets. Their vendor (Topspin) has no product, and doesn’t know if or when they will get it. Go through Amazon. They seem to have no idea how this whole commerce thing works.

Utter bullshit!!!!!!!!!!! I just want a refund at this point and can’t get anyone to respond to an email… and they don’t appear to own phones as I looked through 20 pages of Google results for a phone number, NOTHING!

100. humanstray - 10:00 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

Where is the SP heart? Couldn’t find the logo anywhere on the SD reissue… but maybe i just didn’t get a good enough look. At least, I’m hoping i didn’t get a good enough look. :(

101. Ryan - 10:18 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

So someone from Topspin Media named Brad Barrish who claims to be the Head of some Operations there (take a look here: https://www.facebook.com/TopspinMedia) has put a phone number on Facebook and even offered to refund a customer’s money in regards to the Pumpkins CD’s.

Brad Barrish 310-929-7455
Head of Operations

I say call ‘em! And call ‘em often!

102. jon morgan photography - 10:49 pm // Thursday, December 1, 2011

I just went to the Bandmerch website listed on the receipt I received when I purchased SD and emailed them a refund request. I mean seriously this is a total fuck up. Mine doesnt even have a shipping date on it. What was even the purpose of a pre-order if you have to wait a week after these come out??

103. sunkissed - 1:50 am // Friday, December 2, 2011

Why don’t you just download the reissues while you’re waiting for your physical copies in the interim?

104. jon morgan photography - 2:27 am // Friday, December 2, 2011

i would love to download but why pay for the same thing twice?? or am i missing something…

105. jibernish - 9:18 am // Friday, December 2, 2011

I got an email back from Topspin last night and they offered me a refund. So I took them up on it – I only hope I actually get the refund and don’t have to argue with them about it.

Went to BestBuy.com, ordered the sets, and they are already ready for me to pick up at the store. Can’t wait to get them after work.

Sadly, I still want the hi-fi files and after reading about other people’s issues, I’m tentative to pay for them. It shouldn’t be a struggle…

106. SPForever247 - 10:55 am // Friday, December 2, 2011

I just e-mail BandMerch and requested a refund. I said that if I do not get a response in 48 hours I will call me credit card company to dispute the charges myself. I cannot afford to go out and buy the reissues until I get the refund. The way this company handled this is unprofessional. I do not blame SP at all, I just hope they realize the problem and go through someone else next time.

107. themadcaplaughs - 12:09 pm // Friday, December 2, 2011

I just talked to the Brad who’s number was posted here. He said the information about there not being any CDs pressed is false. the distributor simply needed to ship more to Topspin before they shipped out. He says they have been personally promised by the distributor and the band themselves that the packages will be out by the 6th.

108. jon morgan photography - 4:39 pm // Friday, December 2, 2011

i still have gotten no reply from either topspin or band merch. i am so frustrated at this point that I am being ignored. can anybody here advise what to do i am a bit exhausted with this at this point. waiting months for these.

109. AmyC - 4:42 pm // Friday, December 2, 2011

THAT GIRL IN THE PHOTO IS HOT

110. crookedsparrow - 7:11 pm // Friday, December 2, 2011

I received this from topspin today, still haven’t heard from bandmerch – looks like somebody is trying to come up with some sort of “courtesy” for folks that wait for their orders to be filled. If you don’t want to wait, ask for a refund.

thanks for the email. I’m so very sorry for all of the frustration caused by the delay of your Smashing Pumpkins purchase! As of this moment, we are still trying to figure out some type of courtesy to offer fans that are willing to wait for this merchandise. At this point, we are not offering anything however, if you are not interested in waiting for your merchandise, I’m totally fine with refunding your order in full.

Again I’m so sorry for all of the delays you’ve encountered while ordering! Please let me know how you would like to move forward.

111. jibernish - 10:43 pm // Friday, December 2, 2011

I got the same reply crookedsparrow did. I went ahead and requested the refund. Haven’t heard back on that, but went ahead and ordered it online from bestbuy this morning. Went after work to pick it up (only 2 of 10 bestbuys in my area had any in stock) and they couldn’t find the merchandise they said they already pulled for me. So I went to dinner and let them look all over the store. After dinner they finally found it and I now have my beautiful Gish and SD box sets. And get this – my SD box had 2 copies of Siamese dream in it. How’d that happen? Luckily it does also contain the bonus cd and the dvd too.

It was such a struggle to get these, and now I have 2. Yay.

So, should I struggle with the hi-fi????/ Hmm….

112. Adam - 1:47 am // Saturday, December 3, 2011

lol at all the fans that got f’ed in the a from doing the pre orders.

i didn’t preorder. I got my ass in the car and drove to the store. I got there at 2pm. newbury comics. tons of copies left. go to the counter, purchase my copy, and the teller turns to his manager and says ‘the smashing pumpkins sets our now moving. first one sold!’

So it’s not like they were going to run out. Can’t wait to hear your opinions on the set on the 9th of december!

113. Jonk - 2:58 am // Saturday, December 3, 2011

Hope you enjoy it Adam, you know, since 1993 isn’t coming back or anything

Arrgh.

Good news is the 24k/96 download worked fine for me.

116. Adam - 5:48 pm // Sunday, December 4, 2011

btw in 1993, when i was your age, there was no pre orders! we got in our damn cars, drove through a snow storm, and bought our smashing pumpkins CD’s with our own damn hands! you kids and your teargardens will never learn!

117. Jonk - 4:39 am // Monday, December 5, 2011

you’re the same age as me and I buy my music at the store too Adam. lol

118. Soltmen - 1:46 pm // Saturday, December 10, 2011

Look what just arrived, it’s my SPRC pre-order from TopSpin. 12/10/11 and what a surprise, both the vinyl covers have shipping damage in the corners due to poor packing. Just like Insound from the previous release. Due to the delay associated with this release I guess I’ll make them re-ship the vinyl until I receive a clean, undamaged copy. I hope everyone has received their order.
