Almost 16 years after the release party for Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, a Smashing Pumpkins concert is taking place tonight at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago.
We’re slapping together a list of Twitter users who look to be gathering at Racine, Lawrence, and Broadway; feel free to use the comment section on this post to discuss the events of the night.
8pm CT: A brief surprise set by Catherine, the Chicago band for which current Pumpkins producer Kerry Brown was drummer during the mid-1990s, is supposed to take place following the Pumpkins’ performance. Billy Corgan is expected to play guitar with Catherine.
8:55pm CT: The Pumpkins are on.
10:40pm CT: Almost 100 Twitter users now on our list; check out what they are sharing from inside the venue as the show continues.

That was a classic. I have a tape that I made at the show and Billy kept the show going even without the lights.

Those USB sticks with the recording of the show on them are a complete rip off. The audio is just awful. It sounds like someone with a old fashion tape recorded in their pocket but even that would sound better then this thing.

@mhart Actually it sounds like you ripped the audio from a shitty cell-phone video on YouTube. Which is what I’m guessing you did (unless, of course, it was your own shitty cell-phone video). Nice try, though.
@34 I think mhart is speaking truth. If you look at his website mikehart.net he appears to be a parent and has also sent out his complaint via twitter. Definitely not fitting the typical troll picture. The USB process is so rushed (I saw the guys frantically jamming USB drives into whatever device they use to record/transfer the audio) I could totally imagine sound quality suffering. I’m just surprised this is the first complaint we’ve seen (maybe Chicago is the first night their QA failed)
That’s got to be a mistake… There’s NO WAY they’d be selling audio that bad, someone would have said something by now. My guess is something went wrong either with this batch or that one recording… Sounds like it was just captured from one mic…
It seems legit. Someone on netphoria complained to them about it and they replied that they would try and fix the problem or offer a full refund.
The sound sucks because The Riv sucks. Lay off the band, they don’t pick the venue.
No that audio is not from a cell phone, in fact the video I did record from my iPhone sounds 10x better than this.
The audio from all the previous show USBs is very good quality, right off the boards. milwaukee sounds fantastic.
I was really disappointed Billy didn’t play the Chicago Code theme song last night. Would’ve been perfect for the home town crowd.
well something went horribly wrong with last nights recording. I’m gonna try to contact Aderra, the company behind the USB’s and see what they say.
My USB from the Denver show sounds amazing. I am sure there was some sort of issue that they would be happy to fix if you contact them.

The Denver USB sound is crisp and clear. It sounds nothing like Mhart posted.
Looks like multiple people are reporting problems with last night’s USBs, but if you contact Aderra, they will try to make it right or give you a refund.

The company behind the USB stick Aderra took care of the problem, they sent me a link to download the show and it really does sound great.
@34 – Ha, and you thought I was lying.
@mhart I stand corrected. Well, I’m sitting, but yeah. Wonder how they managed to screw it up that bad, unless they somehow normalized the show at +24dB…
So is it worth buying the USB stick over just buying the $15 download?
@Graves – if you want the cool-looking laminate/neck-strap and a 2G USB stick that you can use for something else if you ever decide to, as well as access to “exclusive content” that is supposed to go up online at some point (last I checked there wasn’t any), then yes. Personally, I’m interested to see if they’ll do any kind of bundling download deals for people who’ve already bought USBs at the shows.
2Gb flash drive costs like 5$ so you’re paying 5$ for ‘exclusive content’. Guess it’s kinda worth it. Oh, I forgot about the strap too.

Anyone w/ the USBs/downloads from this show (or any shows past the first 2)- how are the toms (most obvious on Silverfuck)? Decent mix, or still way louder than everything else?
