This afternoon at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, Smashing Pumpkins held the first of their Smashing Pumpkins Record Club (SPRC) meetups, which are to be held preceding every US tour date this month. Beginning around 4:30 PM PDT, fans had the opportunity to meet with Pumpkins producer and social media guru Kerry Brown to discuss the upcoming reissue project and the SPRC digital releases.
Those at the meetup (including former HU reader MonteLDS) were shown tentative tracklistings for the bonus discs that will accompany the remastered albums Gish and Siamese Dream. Previously set for release on November 15, the band now plans to reissue those albums on November 29. The Pumpkins intend to issue a press release with information on the reissues on Monday. Fans at the SPRC meetup today were allowed to hear a stripped-down mix of “Disarm” that will be featured on the Siamese Dream bonus disc. Attendees were also informed that the upcoming free release mentioned yesterday on Twitter by @SPRecordClub is a version of “Rhinoceros.”
The band plans to sell a recording of tonight’s show immediately following the end of tonight’s activities. Fans can pay $15 for the show, and for an extra $10 receive additional bonus tracks. Coincidentally, we notice that livesmashingpumpkins.com, the website on which the band released their 2008 live recordings, is no longer online. UPDATE: An SPRC store is now live on the Pumpkins’ website. When you click on the “Live Show USB” link, you can select any of the Pumpkins’ US tour dates for purchase for $25. No $15 option yet. UPDATE (9:36PM PDT): We’re getting questions about the delivery method for the live recordings. According to a tweet by Pumpkins vendor Uprising Create, there will be “nightly” downloads. UPDATE (10/6, 12:20AM PDT): Fans who bought the $25 option (plus $10 shipping & handling) via the SPRC store report that a USB stick will ship to them within 72 hours. Flyers from the show indicate that attendees can take home the USBs and that you can enter to win a recording via text message.
Is the recording of tonight’s show the same thing that’s up on the SPRC store website? I noticed there was only one $25 USB show, is that the $15 or $25 version that they’re selling there, or is it something different?
@Reichljuice
Yup, @SmashingPumpkin just tweeted the link as well. Looks like only the $25 version is up so far, and a few t-shirts.
@susan
so should we buy now, or how is the delivery going to happen? Email link or something?
@gyang333
Still seems a bit unclear. Will keep updating this post along with our concert post tonight, as needed. :)
zero shirt still for sale really billy!!! how long will u milk that!
i read on crestfallen u get to c billy reherding?
Any idea as to what format these shows will be in (mp3, FLAC)???
And will there be a tour package option for all the shows???
These are my big questions.
The bonus tracks (what I can read of them) are kinda disappointing…so many new mixes of old songs. I’d rather have archival stuff like demos than a stripped-down “Disarm.” Oh well. I know I’d buy it anyway even if the bonus tracks were Billy coughing and James Iha flushing the toilet.
Man, I really wish that image for the USB on the SPRC store was a poster instead. It’s a phenomenal piece of artwork.
I’m starting to wonder about the $15 option. It may just be for attendees of the show.
Would welcome some comments/feedback from people who got the USB in LA last night; have heard surprisingly little about it from people who have them in hand.
