The Smashing Pumpkins’ official Facebook page offered a sneak peek into the band’s archives tonight by posting a picture of an “about to be transferred” 4-track casette tape from the “Gish/Siamese era.” According to the post, over 60 such tapes have already been transferred, presumably for the purpose of identifying material to be released over the next couple of years.
The tracklist on the tape, written in Billy Corgan’s distinctive handwriting, consists of…
- Bury Me – 1st version
- Prayer Music
- Daydream
FinalFunk Precursor to C’Mon- Bury Me
- C’Mon 1
- C’Mon 2
- Acoustic #2
- Semi-New Acoustic “Heal Me”
I thought it said “Funk Precursor to C’Mon”
Wonder if it’s just the Reel Time Bury Me. Glad there’s “new” old stuff, though, for sure.
I wonder if Acoustic #2 might be Honeyspider 2 (i do doubt it though)
I’d like to hear what Prayer Music and Heal Me are about.. C’mon is good ol’ rocker; be interesting to listen to it being shaped..
I meant “iza good”..
Yeah, looks like “funk” to me to. Billy’s i’s don’t have tails.
I think you guys are right about funk…will update.
i think you guys are wrong, i think its final
Unbelievable how many comments the Facebook SP page gets sometimes. I wonder how many are hardcore fans compared to casual.
@MonteLDS
While I can see it as “Final”, the phrase “Final Precursor” doesn’t really make sense. That’s sort of like saying the end of the beginning. (or the Beginning is the End is the Beginning :P) Yes, their could be multiple precursors, but I feel it is much more likely in this context to read “Funk”. I could be wrong, but this is MHO.
Anywho, this is a smart move by Billy. Nothing shuts up fans believing they have “heard it all” by showing them things they haven’t heard. Marvelous! I look forward to it tremendously.
**also I know normally don’t do this, but it is bugging me terribly. My comment should read “Yes, THERE…” instead of “Yes, THEIR…”
and the word “by” in the second paragraph should be “like”
Niiice.
Also, I dunno how anyone who’s been around long enough to collect every album, single, soundtrack & demo tape can -possibly- still think they’ve heard everything.
I believe Billy’s exact words in 2000 on the archives were “there’s basically an infinite supply”. No shit. :>
Man even back then billy was all about the “c’mons”
I would laugh if it’s the same “C’mon . . . ” from Zeitgeist, like with “GLOW” being semi-recycled.
@dirtofgrandeur
it’s not

lol Fuzzy
That’s The Way is recycled as well. It’s one of the Mellon Collie demos – there’s a riff starts out as That’s The Way and then turns into Endless Summer, albeit in a different key
Am I a hard core SP fan because i known what C’Mon is for well over 15 years. or am I just old?
@Monte, I thought everybody knew that.
@Monte Maybe both, but don’t worry I’m in the same boat. (Not quite for 15 years though. :P)
@DiamondJigsaw I thought so too. But i guess their are always new fans out there
I’m in the “final” camp, although I thought it said funk when I first saw it. Either way, I want to hear it :)
So, they’re going to ‘review’ the ‘tape transfers’ to see what to ‘release’ on the ‘re-releases’? Seems cool. The Greedies, like me, just want to buy a copy of it aaall. :) :p
I think I’m alone here. I thought it said “Fume” at first. :)
^ Listening to too much Beck, perhaps?
I think…I’m in love?
@JCelsius **also I know normally don’t do this** (correction) also(,) I don’t normally do this.
It clearly says FUML, as in “from under my love” I love that song, an oldie, but a goodie.
love the old stuff. The new pumpkins just can’t be held to the same standard as from 20 years ago, it was pure, raw youth, you just can’t conjure up that energy when you’re in your 40′s. So, enjoy the new stuff for what it is and continue to love what once was and never will be again…case in point:
@FOMs
what is this FUML you speak of? is it an SP song? if so, where can it be found?
i hope i’m not missing some joke you’re making…
@theFred Clearly, he’s trolling!
@Seb, Actually, Beck was the first thing that came to mind after I read it.
@Seb, Although I haven’t listened to that one in ages.
corgan IS the smashing pumpkins. old or new.
“fumi” and “semi new acoustic veal off”
Final
