Corgan’s big announcement: New album, re-releases on the way 10:00 am // Tuesday, April 26, 2011

It’s the day Smashing Pumpkins fans have been waiting for for weeks: Billy Corgan’s big announcement. The announcement(s) came this morning in a four-minute video message from Corgan on the Pumpkins’ Facebook page.
Highlights of the message, more or less in the order presented:
1. “Owata” to be the 10th Teargarden song
The Smashing Pumpkins have one more song in the recording studio can: “Owata”, which will come out “in about a week, hopefully end of April, beginning of May.” The song will be the tenth track of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.
2. Pumpkins to record “album within an album,” Oceania
The band will then return to the studio to record, “old-school style,” a full-length album of 9 to 11 songs called Oceania. “Even though I pronounced the album dead, I guess I still want to do another one,” jokes Corgan. “It is part of the Teargarden project,” he stresses. “Most of the songs are already written and we’re just finishing them up now. We’re going to go into the studio May-June-July and hopefully it’ll be out September 1st.”
3. Pumpkins may tour Europe or U.S. in August
“We’re also going to be doing some touring in August,” reports Corgan, with Europe being the most likely terrain. “I’ve heard everything from possible America to possible Europe. … We’re trying to sort that out.”
4. Gish through Machina II to be remastered, reissued with extra tracks
In conjunction with EMI, Corgan says, “We’re going to reissue all the albums. So by Christmas this year, Gish, Siamese Dream and Pisces Iscariot will all come out reissued, remastered, with some extra tracks, unreleased things. And then in 2012, you’ll see Mellon Collie, Aeroplane Flies High, and Adore. … And then in 2013 we’ll have Machina I and Machina II.”
Corgan adds that the releases will also be on “high grade” vinyl, and that the two Machina albums may be “put together finally in the correct running order.” In addition, Corgan “might even possibly remix [the Machina albums], because I know through the years not everyone’s liked those mixes.”
5. Band has full control over past unreleased material
Corgan says the Pumpkins have, “after about nine, ten years of negotiating … finally secured the rights to all the unreleased material in the Pumpkins archives.” The rights encompass “both stuff that we possess, and the stuff that our old label EMI has.”
He later expands: “The cool thing is, what we’ve arranged to do in coordination with EMI is to create sort of a digital box set, and the great thing about the rights we’ve secured is we have the ability to put out any of the unreleased stuff any time we want any way we want, we don’t have to work it out with EMI.”
“This allows us a ton of flexibility. So, you’ll see everything from free stuff that we own…early Pumpkin practices from 1987, there’s concerts, there’s videos, there’s of course the famed last show–sorry about that–so there’s tons of stuff … [T]he great thing is there’s nothing standing now between our ability to get the stuff together and put it out.”
“I’m looking forward to getting the albums reissued, remastered and hopefully introduce a new generation to the great legacy of the band, which you know we worked very hard to have lots of stuff that could one day be looked at again … That’s very close to my heart … putting out those albums again and being able to put some of the live stuff and the unreleased stuff out in coordination with it.”
first
Sure doesn’t disappoint! WoW! :)
Does this mean we might get a real release of Mashed Potatoes?
Don’t know for you all but this is a REALLY big announcement for me ^^
About time you’re getting things right Billy.
Chance Oceania is released by Sept. 1? I’m putting it at about 10 percent that it gets released this year.
calm down you guys, if you get too excited he might lose all interest in the project and abandon it.
old and new – fantastic
it’s about time.
How will Oceania be published/distributed? EMI? If there is some sort of major label involved, then I suppose the band have to respect any release date more strictly. Is Oceania a sort of “price” to pay to EMI for all the archives stuff?
I think this re-issuing is coming at a good time. If it was any earlier than ~20 years after the actual release, I don’t think people would necessarily buy the albums.
But it’d be nice to see the Smashing Pumpkins area of my local HMV bulk up to the same size (preferably bigger) as the Pavement area.
yeah, a price to pay for EMI
Floppy: leave me alone! :D
What I typed in the CherriBomb post:
Good question- wondering if this album will be through EMI. Given the release date of September(!), I’m thinking it might still be independant. If anything, the sound should be more cohesive- the drawback of TbK is it’s strength- every song breathes on it’s own terms. Wondering what kind of songs will be on there- for WPC (Billy) to say he’s releasing an album five months out- I wouldn’t doubt it should be in the same vain of some of the newer songs they’ve been playing. I will be really surprised if they get this out the gate in September- I’ll be very happy when it’s released though. Even the name Oceania (sp?) gives it a light feeling
excited for Owata
@zzavettoni, you raised a good question.. It could be some kind of “price”… But even if it really is this way, i think it will really mean for us that we’ll have more Teargarden songs in less time than what would take if Billy kept through this year with the same pace..
So no new songs this summer? =/ lol
Woooo! can’t wait for a new album! its going to be awesome I hope. I know Owata is at least :D
touring in the summer though! hopefully this year you don’t have to be first 20 to hear any new shit
here’s hoping for first 30 you guys!!!
SOOOOOOOONG SOOOONG OWATA HORRIBLE SONG U R 2 ME
No reissue of Zeitgeist?
pretty glad to hear everything but owata today though on the serious side of it but still ain’t gonna get my hopes up. i feel like 2 years ago around this time of the year we were getting ANOTHER grand mission statement, this one via email, about how amazing TBK was going to be and how awesome the archives were and that billy was making plans to be in FOUR BANDS!! YAYS!!!
we all know how that one turned out right?
no mention of zwan or solo stuff either but that was on warner brothers and not EMI
If this wont be on Oceania, then im gonna murder BC.
@rapapapa
I assumed the Oceania songs would be about Australia, or his girlfriend (Lisa? or is Jess)
Exciting stuff, looking forward to talking more about it on an upcoming podcast. I wonder what the timetable will look like for the reissues/”digital box sets”? Like will all 3 reissues hit stores on the same day, and will the digital box set material be available for all 3 albums at the same time? I’m thinking in order to maximize exposure to the digital box set stuff, you’d want to have it available when the album comes out so that you can promote it in the album packaging, but if EMI is handling the reissues while the band handles the digital material it doesn’t seem likely.
Not in the announcement: Oceania tracklisting. Speculation commences now!
… others?
Everton: yep, I’m not complaining at all, just thinking out loud (well… sort of!).
Zwan/solo/Zeitgeist were all on Warner Bros- WPC (Billy) has said those rights won’t be available until 2014 I believe
jjb: ahum, it’s a joke, isn’t it?
perhaps ‘Lonely is the Name’…
Good stuff, Oceania sounds very promising. Not too thrilled about Owata since its not one of my favs but o well. Sept 1 is really early for an album release. And 3 albums in one day? Thats really big news. I wonder if Billy will complete his promise and while touring, perform retouched Pre-Gish/Gish/SD songs. Or will new SP be the way forever? Hmmm
*like*
Well, this news was actually worth the wait. I suppose the reason for all the excessive announcing was that WPC got excited and wanted to share his excitement without saying something that at the time was still in the works. Super excited about Oceania although when he says “old school style” I am reminded of how Teargarden was to sound like early pumpkins. Still rather excited though.
All I can say about the remasters is hallelujah. I am particularly looking forward to Machina I& II and MCIS. If “White Spyder” is remixed/remastered I will go through the roof. (in a good way) That song is one of my favorites from Machina II but the quality is so….frustrating.
Thank you Billy. I’m sending some heavy positive vibes your way, my friend. Good luck in the studio.
And re-mastered kinda scares me too… I mean, are they just touching up the songs? Or will they re-produce? Maybe redo some songs? When PJ remastered “Ten” all songs were redone if im not mistaken. If thats the case, how can you redo Butch or Flood? I guess we have too wait.
JCelsius: to me the “old school style” sounds like he’s referring to the studio -> full album process, not the musical approach/style.
good news today! glad to hear that EMI came around.
I wonder though if EMI will be backing Oceania in any form.
@zzavettoni
Yes, I believe you’re right.
@Just_Erick: A “remastering” starts from the same final mix that the original mastering process did. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_mastering
This is really amazing news. Can’t wait to get vinyl re issues of the first three albums. And I hope Quasar is on Oceania
I doubt Oceania would have any backing from EMI. Billy just spent 10 years securing the full rights to his music, why would he want to deal with a label again? And if it’s part of TBK, I wonder if Oceania will be free too?
The real news is still yet to be announced: will Oceania get hit by a Category 5 Blurricane?!?!?!
For Oceania it would not surprise me if there is a single album deal with EMI in place, potentially with a future “first offer” deal, however the rights remain with Billy. In other words, EMI is distributing them.
I am just hoping the digital box set and reissues do not end up being a double dip cash grab like the multiple versions of Zeitgeist which only differed by one song.
All sounds pretty excellent. I hope the Oceania project results in a more cohesive listening experience that the Teargarden stuff up until now. Too bad the world is ending in 2012, I would have liked to hear the Machina I/II remix/remaster.
I like how p4k couldn’t do a neutral post about SP, they had to mention the 20th Anniversary Tour.
start up the revelry

OCEANIA 2011 =D
wait isn’t oceania a reference to 1984? if so as rome burns should definitely be on there (my favorite of the new songs). the album’s gonna be political again i hope.
@asromeburns0
Oceania is an alterbative name for Australasia. It’s a continent. Nothing more, ever.
*alternative
it could just as easily be a reference to 1984.
@TheFred
Maybe. Talking about potential literary references, I was reading Atlas Shrugged, and there’s a section called “The Sacred and Profane”. Coincidence, I THINK NOT.
Oceania is probably basically a promo, released through EMI, for the re-issues. It’s like “Hey, look, Smashing Pumpkins have an album out!” and then they start the re-issuing. Like, if they re-issued the albums first and then put out a new album afterwards, it wouldn’t up the notice of the band in the public eye. But if they put out a new album first, through record stores and on the EMI label, it gets people remembering Smashing Pumpkins again, and then come the album re-issues.
Just a theory, but that’s what I’m guessing.
All great news.
Looking forward :)
Great news all around! I think I was most excited by the news of Owata since the album and archives/reissues were foregone conclusions already. Still nice to finally have them confirmed though.
It’s a safe bet that Oceania is not going to be on EMI (or any major label) because there’s no way it’d be released in September if that were the case. Labels just don’t work like that.
The big question(s) now is, what happens after Oceania? Will they record more than 10-11 songs and save the extras for future individual release? Will it just be albums going forward? I suppose it all depends on how Oceania is received.
In any case I’m way more excited about TbK than I have been since it was first announced. The prospect of another 3 years of a song every 2-3 months had gotten pretty dull. This is exactly the shot in the arm the project needed. Can’t wait for all the geeky details (cover art, will the album also have “Teargarden by Kaleidyscope” in the title, tracklist, b-sides etc.)
Seems like good news…cautiously optimistic. The only reservations I have are:
* Billy’s track record with his plans/announcements, versus what actually comes to fruition.
* The rare/unreleased/bonus material actually being something “new” that we haven’t heard. There was a time when most of that stuff had to be searched for–now even a casual fan can easily grab the obvious basic demos, etc, from torrent sites and places like ThePumpkinsNet. Even if some of the “unreleased” stuff that’s readily available isn’t properly mastered/packaged…much of it sounds good enough already that I couldn’t get that excited about hearing an “official” version (we’ve already heard the Gish demos & stuff like that a million times). Would really just like to hear something that truly hasn’t been available.
@misery I’d wager the title Oceania has more to do with 1984 as opposed to simply being a reference to Australasia. It wouldn’t be the first time Billy has referenced it. I guess we’ll know if the next two albums end up being called Eastasia and Eurasia ;) 1984 can certainly be considered a Fool’s Journey.
@skullivan
A very BORING fools journey.
Or a Oceania could be a reference to Bjork. Boy would that be a dream come true, Bjork and Billy…
@jjb thanks for the clarification.
The biggest question of cred to me would be whether the Oceania songs will be released for free like the first ten. Billy said Teargarden was free, no exceptions. Hopefully it will be available for purchase for a month and then be released no-discriptly on the site for free. Sort of like the EP’s, but in reverse order of release.
Still, great news. And Owata :)
I hope Owata is the rockin’ version.
Machina 1 remixed !! Awesome !
Machina 2 released and remixed !! Awesome too!
Damn, in 2013.
Also: remember the first of the year when the Smashing Pumpkins Facebook picture changed to the All-Seeing-Eye? And then they said “Oh, you’ll all figure that out soon enough”…..has anyone figured it out yet? ;)
couldn’t get any better.
And personally, I’m hoping for the Chris Issac version of Owata.
Awesome news, ahhh I can’t be more excited ^^ they just need to tour america and ill be especially delighted! Neat title, it sounds very light and easy going and i’m glad hes not abandoning teargarden just expanding on it with this one, yes!!!
Also if you guys havent been listening to Jimmy’s new work, shame on you:
http://recordstoreday.com/CustomPage/1070
Im not disappointed as I thought I might be, Skysaw turned out a great album.
the only album that needs re-mixing is zeitgeist.
re-mixing the vocals to an appropriate would improve that album immensely
@p
Wotchoo on bout Willis.
Zeitgeist is great.
If Oceania is part of TBK, it would have to be free right? I mean, could you imagine the backlash if it’s not?!
@Johnny
I second this.
are these unreleased songs gonna be things like ‘vanilla’ that we all already have, or is it gonna really be stuff that hasn’t seen the light of day anywhere?
@Misery – agree that it’s great but it is a very in-your-face, punch, ‘pop’ mix. I’d love to hear the original ‘dirty’ mixes, which I imagine sound a lot like “FOL” in terms of the overall mix. (a perpetually underappreciated orphan) Esp. on a nice big 180g record.
A vinyl version of “Aeroplane”, also = wow. Esp. if they replicate the original box set, maybe with 10″s (and a double-10″ for Zero?)
And, a whole new album, album. That is outstanding news. As much as I really love Tgbk so far, it has been discombulating to perpetually revise an understanding of the flow of the songs. Esp since the songs are intentionally all over the place and above all poppy. Hopefully this move allows the new lineup to explore the ‘epic, dreamy’ music Nicole has talked about!
Remasters suck. I really don’t want to hear the same song a different way.
(Even Andy Warhols soups cans got boring. Changing the color didn’t make them more interesting.)
The original is the purist.
I am so excited. I’m like a kid in a candy shop right now.
Disappointed that Lonely Is The Name has been pushed back, but hopefully not abandoned. There better be a good tour in Oceania in support of the album!
The Adore rerelease better feature Let Me Give The World To You this time or we know Billy is just being sadistic.
Psyched about Machina remaster and reorder. Hope it happens!!
Remasters – Burp
New record – about time/meh
Last Show – Whoop
Machina – Very intriguing
Other old stuff – Awesome
Timescales – Luzzy
Groundbreaking – R.I.P. ‘Absolutely’
-VICTORY FOR THOSE OF US LIVING IN THE PAST-
See you in 2025 for the ‘last show’ release.
@Johnny – im not sure, but dont look right into it!!!!!
on that note, anyone else bothered how bill looked right into your eye as he was doing the vid? im offended.
*BOOM* (Brain explodes out the back)
I don’t see the big deal if they aren’t released for free. I’d gladly pay for a cohesive album. It makes little sense to release them immediately for free. I’d say wait a few years. Otherwise all the money that goes into actually making the discs and cases etc. would be a total waste. I’d rather them make money on this. After all, this is his JOB.
@you: I’m sure there’ll be a mixture of both; particularly on the reissues which will likely be more geared towards casual fans who may not have heard the amount of “unreleased” material diehards have. Or even obscure released material along the lines of Purr Snickety or Apathy’s Last Kiss.
@Jcelcius The rereleases wont be free. Why would anybody think that? We might get some demos once in a while but thats it. And TBK.
This is awesome news. High fives all round.
fucking finally!! Now I can REALLY live in the past!!
@ graves
I was referring to Oceania.
I honestly don’t care if Oceania is free or not. In fact, I’d love to be able to go into a record store and lay down 10-15 bucks for a CD of it. The free mp3s are nice and all, but the good ol’ affordable (not these limited edition things), tangible records are much better.
No, I think the physical disk should absolutly NOT be free. It doesn’t make sense, they need money, it costs money to make them My hope would be that Oceania is released commercially in stores for a month or two or whatever, even until the release of the rest of the mp3s (assuming that SP returns to that post Oceania), and THEN put on the site as free mp3s. Billy’s just made so many commitments to the free music model so far, I don’t think (and I hope) that he won’t turn his back on it now.
I agree, I would LOVE a physical release for Oceania, with nice artwork and affordable packaging.
For me, Oceania is the most exciting part of Billy’s news.
@internetcliche
Why not just remaster the one on Machina II? Unless you mean the Adore-era version of the song
I know Oceana and the rereleases are incredible news and all, but I can’t believe nobody’s mentioning Owata. I hope it will be this arrangement:
Transcribed: http://www.spfc.org/news-press/articles.html?content_id=2322
yahear that bill? WE ALL WANT TO PAY FOR YOUR MUSIC! AT REAL STORES!!
sweet!
Billy has talked about how the band is looking forward and not to the past. But how does re-releasing the albums help the band “look forward.” When Gish, etc, are re-released, the focus won’t be on Oceania or Teagarden, but reflecting back and talking about the “old” band (and comparing the re-released albums to the new songs).
Similarly, Billy’s said he won’t be playing a lot of the old songs on tours. So again, if he’s touring when these albums are re-released and if people who paid attention to the band in the 90s but haven’t followed them since go to the concert, will they be wanting to hear the new Teargarden songs or hearing the hits from Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie, etc. Will Billy be back to playing 1979, Disarm, etc on tour? What about songs he penned with James like Mayonnaise?
I’m actually more excited about the news about Oceania than the album re-releases (though the archives part of that is cool).
I agree with DK.
Billy has to realize that if you’re touring at the same time you’re re-releasing classics, people are going to show up expecting to hear those old songs.
That being said, I think the sets during the last tour were pretty good at showcasing the various points of the band’s career
As I posted on Netphoria, it’s interesting that Billy is wanting to release “legacy” reissues/extra tracks, now that he once again has the backing of EMI.
When he was telling us to quit looking at the past, was that because he was doing all the work for the TBK stuff himself and he had to get it out there? Now that EMI can release it for him, he’s no longer so against it?
Anyway, if you look at what he’s offered, it certainly looks like he reads HU and Netphoria:
(1) Return to album format
(2) Return to full band in studio
(3) “Apologizes” for non-release of Metro show
(4) Mentions that he might want to do a remix of M1 and M2 because some people didn’t like the mixes
(5) Wants to release archival/unreleased material.
These were all major complaints from the SP community the last couple of years. It would have been sweet if he had actually given us something unreleased right off the bat since they have “full control” over the archival stuff.
Anything that builds a sense of continuity around Billy’s career can only serve to elevate the perception of ‘Teargarden’ from what it is now (which is not negative so much as it is nonexistent). Just speaking for myself, the bridge in “Astral Planes” sounded a lot better today for some reason
I also believe hes probably been reading what we have to say, its quite nice actually to get some of what we wanted from the band and im excited for all these things to come. Count me in on one who wants to pay for Oceania, I want money to be made for the band, success and music videos and a tour to follow :)
Oceania is also the name of a super-state in George Orwell’s dystopian nightmare novel “nineteen eighty-four”.
WTF people, Oceania is a REAL region, actually… a continent.
OMG YOU GUYS I JUST HEARD SOMA IS THE NAME OF THE DRUG IN BRAVE NEW WORLD!
@dustrock You’re confusing two different issues. Billy’s comments about people living in the past were directed at fans who show up at live shows not wanting to hear anything but the hits. The band can’t move forward if they are beholden to playing concerts filled with nothing but nostalgia.
For some reason this has been interpreted as disdain on Billy’s part for his past work. That’s never been the case. He’s been talking about doing these reissues and the archives for years. He couldn’t because up until now EMI wasn’t open to what he wanted to do (i.e. what was announced today). They own the rights to the vast majority of the catalog, it’s not like he could have done it without them. You make it out like he’s been against the idea all along and EMI came to him and now he’s all gung ho about it. That’s exactly the opposite of what happened.
The announcements today were a laundry list of things that fans have wanted for years and are finally going to get and your response is, “He should have given us something NOW!”
We’re getting Owata next week and who knows what else archive-wise over the summer with an album coming at the end of a time period during which last year we got ONE song. If there’s been a better time to be an SP fan over the last decade, I can’t think of it.
Also, he wasn’t apologizing for not releasing the Metro show, he was joking about it being the “Final” show. As far as Machina II goes, he didn’t say he was going to remix it *because* of fans not liking the quality, he was simply acknowledging the fact. They mixed those songs in 3 weeks, he was never happy with them either. Besides, there’s already people talking about how he better not ruin Song X or Song Y when/if he remixes them, as if remixing them in 2013 will somehow erase all traces of the 2000 versions.
Don’t think for a second that Billy is doing any of this because of fan pressure.
He gets shit on from one angle or another no matter what he does (as you so wonderfully demonstrated) so there’s no benefit to him in that regard. You can’t please everyone, so you may as well please yourself.
I’m now officially appointing skullivan as Major of the World. Well done!
@skullivan Thank you.
@dustrock Billy does not read netphoria. nobody reads netphoria.
Methinks it’ll be free. There wiil be the inevitable collectors set with a map of a fantasy world and a sail boat in a bottle constructed out of petrified wood.
Aaron that actually sounds kind of amazing haha
@skullivan amen
On another note, the Owata news is awesome as well. Tom Tom, The Fellowship, Lightning Strikes, and Owata all in a row? Teargarden is becoming quite the album! I’m really surprised he didn’t lead with this stuff.
Record label changed to Reprise on Facebook page…
@skullivan Seconded!
I agree with skullivan but I acknowledge some points dustrock makes. He definitely has been listening to the fans, which is obvious in some of the new developments, but I wouldn’t for a second dare to say he’s making decisions solely on our complaints/suggestions. When it comes down to it, Billy seems to care a tremendous deal for his fans.
I don’t agree that he the pressure of TbK was coaxing him into neglecting his past music. As has already been said, he was just tired of hearing “play my favorite song” and when he didn’t, hearing “waste of my ticket money”. (Although how anyone could think their shows aren’t spectacular is beyond me.)
I’m very glad to see so many people want to pay for the music. We always have to remember that while creativity fuels the fire, money inevitably fans the flames. It isn’t called selling out, it’s called not going bankrupt trying to release your music.
Jimmy is not on the new album = who cares!
[...] the tumult of yesterday’s big announcement from Billy Corgan about new and old Smashing Pumpkins music, Jimmy Chamberlin released some [...]
Another good thing about this, is Darcy will have more crack money.
Microdance are you looking at the fb page “Smashing Pumpkins” and not the official one “The Smashing Pumpkins”? Zeitgeist was released on Reprise (Warner Brothers). Gosh I feel nerdy. Btw I’ve done that before too.
I would pay for Oceania as an “album with in an album” just as long as their are 44 free songs when all is said and done.
http://allsp.com/l.php?id=e88
@ Jamberlain
I don’t really see what the exact number of free songs has to do with it all, but I highly doubt there will be 44 songs if you don’t count Oceania. There may be 44 if you count the vinyl only tracks, but those wouldn’t be free.
amazing news, the future looks great for those who like the old, the new and both. nay sayers be damned
love it or hate it he is continuing true to his word, his passion is in the new music but he is showing his appreciation to the fans who got him where he is.
wacka wacka
@Jamberlain who really gives a toss as long as we get more music…? if you’re that cut up about having to pay just download the flipping torrent like everyone else does these days
@skullivan
(1) I know about the live shows, but Billy has also commented several thousand times about how people are “stuck” in the SD/MCIS era. Which became a problem on the FB page.
(2) The Metro show thing is your opinion. I think he is laughing because he’s aware there is fan demand for this show.
(3) You’ll excuse me if I remain skeptical and I think suggesting that he release even a single archival track isn’t unreasonable.
He has talked definitely at least about Machina remixes and archival releases before. Remember Frank Quinto? Remember the talk about how they would get people to pay for it?
My point is that he has basically gone out of his way to say “hey, we have complete control over this and can release it anytime”. So why not throw us a bone?
@dustrock It doesn’t make sense to release any archive stuff a matter of days before Owata when they’ve got 4 months of nothing scheduled afterwards.
Be patient my man, we be having so many bones thrown at us we gonna build a T-Rex. We gonna name him Vince.
“The Smashing Pumpkins is a hugely influential and groundbreaking band, and EMI Music is pleased to partner with them for this global catalog initiative,” said Colin Finkelstein, COO of EMI Music North America. “We’re excited to work with Billy Corgan to release remastered and expanded editions of the band’s visionary albums, including previously unreleased recordings, and for EMI Music to exclusively distribute other gems from The Smashing Pumpkins vaults, as sourced by Billy.”
Source: http://www.masslive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2011/04/smashing_pumpkins_to_release_n.html
@skullivan
I would have to disagree about Vince. I believe that with all the bones thrown at us, we would construct a pterosaur of sorts and ride into the sunset, shrieking with joy. As such we would name her Nina.
But yea dustrock, be patient. Ride the pterosaur!
albums are where it is at! People still love albums. I love albums!
yes, but lets be honest – noone wants a newspaper album do they?
I will he will probably be giving freebies as promo for the new TbK stuff/touring. Would not be surprised
“I think he will”….
I hope that:
-Emerald Green is the Colour
-Into the Light
-Make It Happen
-Lonely is the Name
-As Rome Burns
-My Love is Winter
all make it onto Oceania, or are released in any form soon. Love those tunes. But I also REALLY want to hear the brand new stuff Billy’s been working on…
@ddb
I actually hope only As Rome Burns makes it onto Oceania. Not because I don’t like those songs, but because I’m hoping it’s brand new stuff. The reason As Rome Burns is still on my wish list is I want a studio version so effing badly.
I also hope he doesn’t release Make it Happen or if he does he changes the lyrics around. “Make it happen” is a whole lot like “we can make this happen”. I can only imagine the field day the haters would have on that day.
I really really hope that full studio songs of the pistachio medley will be on the aeroplane flies high reissue…that is my one wish. Please..that would make everything ok.
@JCelsius
True enough… new tunes = best. But I’m particularly concerned that “Emerald” & “Light” will be scrapped, since Billy seems to have forgotten both. I like them as much as (or better than) anything we’ve heard so far.
PISTACHIO MEDLEY TRACKS PLEASE!!
It seems that Oceania is actually part of the EMI agreement:
“There will be an ‘album within an album,’ a complete disc to be called Oceania, part of Teargarden but to be issued separately under the terms of the deal that Corgan just inked with EMI”
