Now back in Los Angeles after the Smashing Pumpkins’ jaunt through Asia, Billy Corgan sat down for the camera with producer and friend Kerry Brown and posted a nearly 20-minute video interview to Facebook this evening. He discusses his excitement about this weekend’s massive Sunset Strip music festival, the chemistry of the current band line-up, and takes some questions from fans on Twitter. Check out the full video for more, but here are a few highlights:
The band is now finishing up the artwork for the second EP and fully intend to get it out by the end of this year. Billy realizes the project release cycle has been difficult to stick to, but wants to do the EPs the right way and put out a great product. He’s very complimentary of designer Noel Waggener and mentions their plans to mix it up for each EP in terms of format, release, and packaging.
After dusting off several of his vintage guitars for the recent Matthew Leone benefit concert at the Metro, Billy has been thinking of using them again more frequently. Jeff is lobbying in support of this measure. We are too. (YESSSSS!)
News on The Chicago Kid Project: it’s now curated by Matt Walker who has discovered approximately 72 songs from that era. They’re currently trying to go through and curate all the live, studio, and video media that exists and hopefully put together something by next year. Billy mentions Christmas.
He also thoughtfully weighs in on the analog/digital debate and the work ethic he’s followed throughout his career. Definitely some interesting insight, so check out the full video for more!

What, no mention of the possibility (FINALLY!) of a Gish box set next year for its 20th anniversary? Spread the word! Write to EMI!
Also- next physical Teargarden EP by xmas- sweeet! That means new song downloads about every month?
chicago songs in 16 months woo hoo! (unless matt goes on a moz tour again, then itll get pushed back another 5 years)
Matt Walker? So was Frank Quinto fired?
if we work together, this could be a great year
i hope fans will follow through and get on EMI’s case about the Gish set.

the five fans comment was a little unsettling :s he looked sad :(
but im glad to hear that sp is going to be making the eps and such real nice ^^ can’t wait for the sunset strip show! i hope it gets filmed.
I hope someone (with more know-how than me) starts a petition or something.
His interview is almost always very interesting and makes people hopeful.
Problems is that his insight doesnt translate well into products (studio recording) at all almost always.
Frank Quinto is archiving SP stuff. Matt Walker is just doing ChicagoKid

Wow that’s very cool news. So even if it takes 2 months for song 7 to come out we’ve still got something in between.
More Gish era, yes please.
