Vintage Vinyl, a store located on the wrong side of the Davis Street tracks in downtown Evanston (a suburb of Chicago), has announced through its Facebook page:
April 17, 2010: New limited edition of 250 7″ by Smashing Pumpkins available at Vintage Vinyl only. Cash only sale, limit 1 per customer. In-store while supplies last. If any are left for mailorder, they will be on our site http://www.vvmo.com after 6pm Saturday. The tracks are: “Widow Wake My Mind” and “A Song For A Son”.
And yes, this is the same store where Billy Corgan was spotted shopping on Record Store Day in 2009.

well I guess the mystery as to what the “b-side” for the 7″ is solved. I guess no new song on the EP after all.
No, this is different then what comes with Songs for a Sailor ep. This is a separate 7″ single.
I guess, but isn’t it pretty much common knowledge that the 7″ single from Songs for a Sailor will be WWMM? I just assumed that they wouldn’t go to the trouble of pressing seperate 7″.
The description for the 7″ single for Songs for a Sailor specifically mentioned the B-Side as being a “new” song.”
Didn’t know Billy had a 7-inch (Ha. Ha.). Aside from that, I’d like to get my hands on one of those. Quality is so much better on vinyl it could actually make my like WWMM. :0

This is cool. I wish I was in Chicago for many reasons other then just picking up the vinyl, but if I was there I would be there for this one.
@gyang It’s a safe assumption that Widow will be the A-side on the 7″, but that’s far from what I’d call common knowledge. I still don’t quite understand the logic behind having the same song on CD and vinyl in the same set though so I’m hoping that if it is one of the “album” tracks it’s a demo or alternate mix or something. Maybe a Dance/Electronica remix.
Looks like a nice record, yet once again the fans aren’t treated fairly. Why do groups keep releasing stuff that only a few can ever own, seems unfair to me anyway. On a positive note, good luck to those who can enjoy that ‘offer,’ it sounds like an awesome event.
I’m gutted, I live in the UK so the chances of me ever owning this are slim to none. :-(
If there are any saints out there that manage to lay their hands on two copies and want to sell one on to a genuine fan/collector then please feel free to mail me. Was very happy after the Astral Planes release but now I have to suffer this and the fact that the MAdM show tonight I had tickets for has been cancelled.

Monte just got his hands on a Stitch in Time/Astral Planes one. I don’t know from where, but since he’s at space15twenty, must be around there that he picked it up.
It’s actually interesting to see how many different pieces of artwork is surrounding this release. The sailboat, the artwork that changes on the sp.com site, the artwork packaged with the EP and now this artwork that goes with the limited edition 7″
I assume he got it at Amoeba.

@Ollie Judge – how did you do that? I’m in Australia, I called Amoeba in Hollywood (and San Francisco – who didn’t know about it), and they said that can’t do mail-order, that its in-store only.
If anyone is at the show and able to pick up the astral planes vinyl and ship it to the UK, i will happily pay for it up front. desperate to own a copy of this.
Anyone that could help would be greatly appreciated and in my happy thoughts until the end of time!

Shit i was just in chicago today in that area wish i would have known
we sold out Saturday night on the 7″, I wish we had one for every fan, but 250 is a very small print run.
We’re actually closed on Sundays, but I stopped in and the amount of orders/emails is astounding.
When I get in the shop tomorrow I will unfortunately have to send some emails saying that you just were not in time, I hate to, but we’re all out.

I spoke to one of the guys at Vintage Vinyl yesterday @ 6:40pm CST and he said, at that point, if you made your order they should be able to fulfill it…so you should be good!
So why if they were sold out on Saturday night, DID THEY NOT TAKE IT OFF THEIR SITE!?!?

@Bubba They are a very small, independent record store that does business Monday-Saturday…give them a break. I think the interest in this is, to put it lightly, was semi-unexpected.
LOL at it being unexpected that the Smashing Pumpkins would sell 250 copies of a single. Maybe in indieland they think Dum Dum Girls are more popular than SP, but in reality Zeitgeist sold 500,000 copies…

I oredered mine online, from Australia, at what I think was about 6:15pm Chicago time. So I have my fingers crossed that I may have just snuck in there before they ran out.

I received an email when my order was placed, but I still haven’t received anything saying that everything is okay.
guys, we’re working as fast as we can.
Processing is going along pretty good. We’re shorter staffed today (2 instead of 3).
The calls and e-mails are only slowing us down.
We love you and want you all to get one, and we’re doing our best.

our post office closes at 6PM. I ran the 1st wave over. still a stack left to pack up (and Steve’s still processing…!) so that 6-7 hour estimate I gave @ 5 hours ago, spills into tomorrow.

Is there anyway to tell how this is shaking out? (getting nervous) If we are getting one or not? Like, How many ordered VS how many you physically have?
It’s looking really good for most. I don’t want to make promises online, so it’s best to wait for your shipped e-mail. I have more to process and much more to pack, I won’t finish before we close today, that’s for sure.
I will send out the next batch of shipped emails right around 7 (if you get one it means yours ships at 11AM tomorrow), but if you don’t get one, fret not. There’s over 50 orders in various states of process.
Also, a quick way to check, is to see if we processed your card, we don’t process until we are shipping, so if your card took a hit from Vintage vinyl today, you’re in luck.
Tomorrow, I’m coming in early, I’ll get this finished before long.
Tim, thanks so much for the above-and-beyond customer service on this. I’m sure I speak for most when I say please pass along the fan response to whoever your Smashing Pumpkins management contact is so that they know there is demand for cool little collectible items like this.

I echo Chris’s sentiments to Tim and the the staff at Vintage Vinyl, well above and beyond the call of duty here. It really does prove how valuable independent record stores are still in 2010. Thanks to Tim et al for helping us real fans out (posting here and trying to get the message to the SP forum? That’s a mark of people who care about genuine fans/collectors).
If anyone is reading this (unlikely) from SP management or someone in the know, please let them know how AWESOME Vintage Vinyl have been during this time and that for future exclusive releases, they should certainly be top of the pile.

Robert is downstairs packing all the orders like a madman, I think they’ll all be in the mail @4pm.
Due to a miscount on remaining stock, the Saturday night sell-out was actually Sunday, so some of you that were extra worried you were too late can breathe a sigh of relief.

Actually international orders did get pushed to packing last, there’s more involved with the customs forms and extra protection, so we set them aside for today.
Almost all are processed, just waiting to hear back from a few people with missing address/cc# info.

This is amazing! Got mine yesterday – I like how the records themselves don’t have a sticker. Is there anyway to tell which number I got out of the 250?

Yeah, no labels or anything. If you lose the plastic sleeve with the Smashing Pumpkins sticker on it there’s nothing telling you what the heck it is! Just a cheaply made piece of red vinyl with some etchings on it that probably tell where it was made. A marking like #/250 would be cool. Oh wait, I guess there is what looks like an “S” and “P” on the back but that’s about it.
I ordered a copy of this just last week and it arrived to Ireland 6 days later. I was dealing with a good guy called Steve in there. Really helpful and made the whole thing very simple. He helped me track it down even though they were out of stock. Cost a pretty penny at this stage but it was worth it to me. The packaging is beautiful. Nice and simple. To be honest it kinda reminds me of the old Tonight Tonight packaging for that single. Anyway Vintage Vinyl did a great job. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
