Twitter user and Republican Party pollster David Kanevsky provides a setlist for the most relevant portion of Thursday night’s benefit concert at LaSalle Power Co. in Chicago:
Full set with @Billy: 20th Century Boy, Waiting for the Man, Season of the Witch, Nowhere Man, Widow Make My Mind, Encore: Cinnamon Girl
Respectively, those would be covers of T. Rex, the Velvet Underground, Donovan, the Beatles, the Smashing Pumpkins (ha), and Neil Young.
An unsigned Chicago Tribune review of the concert called Matt Walker’s cover band Zoom, which backed Billy Corgan, “unimpressive,” saying that Corgan “treated the gala as an opportunity to pretend he was a teenager back in his parents’ basement singing classic rock favorites and old AM radio staples.” Not that the parents of this “native of the western suburbs” actually lived together in a house during his adolescence, but we get the idea.
Time Out Chicago has pictures from the event, and Kanevsky uploaded this video of “Nowhere Man” to YouTube:
one of my fave Beatles songs. happiness.
