James Iha: Solo Album in 2009? 2:21 pm // Thursday, April 30, 2009

trackback

HU fave Time Out Chicago today, continuing the Tinted Windows media maelstrom in advance of tonight’s show at the Double Door.  Iha talks about his Chicago roots, driving in a tour van with old man Bun E., and his long-lost love for deep dish pizza.

Oh, and there’s a solo album in the works:

TOC: Cheap Trick is touring this summer. What then is plan for Tinted Windows?
James Iha: There’s going to be a break. Everyone has commitments to other bands. Hanson is making a record around the same time as Bun E.’s tour. Adam is doing a Fountains record. I’m working on a solo record, hoping I can finish up sometimes [sic] this year. But we hope to play as much as we can.

Nice! That is actually all that he should focus on if you ask me…. His first album was surprisingly haunting. I love it!

The only thing I can get from this interview is a craving for deep dish pizza.

Given Zeitgeist was a grand artistic statement that was labored over in the studio, and TW seems like a quickly recorded low budget lark, I don’t think a comparison of Metacritic scores really means anything. Especially considering Zeitgeist reviews were written in an atmosphere of residual good will from the previous decade that the Pumpkins have since squandered.

Who cares what critics say about anything?

Make your own choices.

TOC: How did you get hooked up with the Japanese indie film industry?
James Iha: One of my old roommates from Chicago is from Toyko, in the music and fashion scene over there. I’ve produced four singers over there. Chara, Shione, Ayano and this dude… I can’t think of his name.

Is he forgetting Leo Imai?!

Critics and advertising is useful only in getting word about things. If we relied on word of mouth all the fucking indie ppl wouldn’t ever say shit about hot underground bands.

[...] EMI Rocks in Saitama on February 19. These activities serve as the lead-up to the release of his long-awaited second solo album, which is due out in March. Presumably, the re-release and new album [...]
