Superstar rock reporter Jonathan Cohen, rolling the way he does, breaks the news:
Former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, Hanson’s Taylor Hanson and Fountains Of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger have formed a new band, Tinted Windows.
The group has recorded its debut album at Stratosphere Sound Studios in New York, which Schlesinger and Iha co-own with Ivy’s Andy Chase. The set is expected this spring on a label to be announced.
Tinted Windows will play its first major show at Billboard’s South by Southwest showcase, to be held March 20 at Pangaea in Austin, Texas.
It’s going to be hard to win me over with Taylor Hanson in the group. (insert Family Guy quote here)
yeah, this is just weird.
interesting news
I like all those guys, but it would have been hard to win me over without Taylor Hanson in the group. I’m being serious. He’s the only thing keeping this from being The Last Hard Men, Pt. II. Did you ever hear that record? Yeah, me neither.
I never heard Let It Come Down. I own The Last Hard Men.
This is pretty much the ultimate “that guy” band. People will ask “Who is that guitarist” or “who is that on vocals”, they’ll realize, then be like “Oh, it’s THAT GUY.”
The Last Hard Men actually has some pretty good songs on it.
I stand corrected, I never heard it. I owned Let it Come Down but eventually sold or lost or forgot about it. All I remember from it is Iha smashing Sammy Hagar’s previous record for the amount of times one could use some variation of the word “lover.”
April 1st is still a couple weeks away.
Sounds interesting.
I like Let It Come Down minus the terribly trite lyrics. I found a copy a while ago for pretty cheap and still have it. I only listened to Last Hard Men once and will never listen again.
Uh, WTF?!?… really?
Bun E. Carlos….lives like 10 min. away from me so gotta respect that…
Iha…. didn’t want to join the pumpkins and now this… smart move (sarcasm)
Hanson…. my girlfriend in 6th grade was obsessed.. i’m 22 now what the hell is he back for
Schlesinger…. could care less
This will be interesting. I’m betting they have one popular song that gets on radio and TV then they will slowly disappear.
@ Pizza Club: Use this time wisely.
i guess all has been forgiven regarding the blatant plagiarism of “MMMBop” in James’s “Jealousy”.
One of the first things I thought of too, tcm. ;)
Taylor’s got a great voice. I’m a big Hanson fan though, so I’m pretty biased. And looking forward to this. As long as James doesn’t sing.
I thought the same thing about Mmmbop and Jealousy, tcm. Unlike you, melabonbon, I will not pay any attention to this project *unless* James is the singer. I like my lead singers to sound like they are constantly in danger of falling asleep at the microphone.
And apparently the standards for what constitutes a “supergroup” have decreased considerably. Was nobody from Deep Blue Something available?
I’m sure if there’s a couch there James will sit on it and let someone else do all the work (kidding!)
Fuck all this. James Iha just needs to work that label magic and get Fulflej back together. That band fucking ruled.
I have to say I probably enjoyed Let it Come Down more than TheFutureEmbrace, it was a surprisingly solid album. I haven’t listened to it in years though…
Whatever happened to The Virgins (Auf De Meur, Dando, Iha…)
That would have been much better, ah well, we’ll see if Iha can bring the goods.
The Virgins? I can tell you what happened to that… Evan Dando was involved.
Geez, it’s at Pangea? Why can’t they play a real venue? Pangea is a club that offers bottle service, VIP sections and other ridiculous extravagance. And a bottle of beer is something like $8.
Although I have to admit, Tinted Windows is a catchy band name.
