No Smashing Pumpkins song was among the 1,761 singles receiving at least one mention from any of the 579 music critics taking part in the just-published 2008 edition of Village Voice‘s annual “Pazz & Jop” poll.

In the 2007 singles poll, “Tarantula” and “That’s the Way” each received one mention, the same level of acclaim accorded to “Dick in a Box”.

UPDATE: HU Favorite Lists of Music Lists 2008 honoree Glenn McDonald has released his statistical analysis of the Pazz & Jop albums poll.

In the words of Springfield Elementary’s Mr. Largo: “NO ONE LIKES G.L.O.W.!”

GLOW is not a very good song. In fact, a little embarassing.

I guess the critics just couldn’t feel it low in them, slow in them…the G.L.O.W. in them.

After writing that sentence, it’s no fucking wonder.

Nice to see “Paper Planes” and “L.E.S Artiste” in the top ten though.

Awesome to see this song with four times as many mentions as all post-revival Smashing Pumpkins songs combined:

Look at those babes!

The GLOW video should have had a couple more babes and the song might have earned a mention.

Babes drive the record industry.

You, son of a bitch. I specifically have Mtv(x), Fuse and VH1 blocked on satellite just to avoid trash like that and Spears, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Staind etc.

I want those 10 secs I wasted watching it back. How totally irresponsible….

Better start blocking the Village Voice, son.

9. Rat In A Cage - 1:21 am // Friday, January 23, 2009

Don’t call me son, guy.

Frightened Rabbit scoring #34 on the album list validates anything else.
Single list is surprisingly on par at the top 10-20
To be fair, that song did garner way more airplay/higher chart position, so it should get more mention (quality aside).

… don’t call me guy, buddy.

If there’s one thing I don’t get it’s people saying that something that Billy does embarrasses them. It’s not like he’s your dad. Get over yourself.

ARE YOU A PIMP OR A COUNTRY MUSIC STAR.
